serial to wireless ethernet adapter

Ok de-soldered everything and followed your instruction in this thread. I am pretty sure i have everything correct, i did have to switch pins 2 and 3 because i have the board for a female db9. I telnet to port 7000 and get a blinking cursor, when i type v the cursor scrolls over a few lines and i get a few square blocks.

In your instructions you say to join 4 and 6, but in the post you replied to you said to connect 1,4, and 6. Is this right?

Another thing i should mention is that in the first guide i used it mentioned cutting traces.

# Cut the track between the left-hand pin of J1 and pin 7 of the DB9F connector (the right-hand pin of J1 will be used for the second serial port).
# Cut the track between the right-hand pin of J2 and pin 8 of the DB9F connector (the left-hand pin of J2 will be used for the second serial port).

Do i need to re-connect these?

I also soldered a wire across the two pins for J3 should this be removed?

I really wish i hadn't used that guide.

I got it working with the virtual serial port, is there a way to configure aquanotes w/o it?

well i just about given up.
i cant seem to find what i need to do to get my wireless ethernet adapter to work correctly. earlier on these post, i posted that im able to view the "Status" of my tank, but thats abouts it. When i view the "Modify Aqua Program" i get a bunch of character or gibberish in the fields. Same goes for the clock, calender, also when i try to download logs, etc.. Its like its dropiing packets or the data is not right.

i remove the dlink wireless gaming adapter, and went just a network cord to my lantronix serial comport / ethernet adapter. ran a network to my router. i get the same results.

so is there is something else i need to check for? do i need to look into the wireless router i have, the lantronix box i have, the acjr?

its like i receive data from the acjr, but i cant send data to it so that it will send me the other data i need like the programming, clock, logs. does the acjr constantly send the status data?

or is it that im sending data but im not receiving the data i need?

Make sure that flow control is shut off. It sounds like characters are being drop in the PC to AquaController direction, and that is why only the simply status command works, but the more complicated commands do not.
The status data is only sent in response to the 'c' command.

Is it possible to use DD-WRT intead of Lauren's firmware? I know DD-WRT supports MMC cards but I'm not sure about the serial port.

I am trying to get aquanotes to see my ACII w/o using the virtual com port, is this possible? I have tried Tank Database > Config > TCP > Ip Address (ipoftherouter:port) but can't get it to work.

Yes, it is possible. Select Tank Database->Config->TCP (ACIII), enter the IP of the router, change the port to 7000 and leave the username and password blank.

So in the ip box i would have something like this? 192.168.0.66:7000
I dont see a box for port is why i ask, this is what i have tried and can't get it to work.

Cool got it working!

Thanks a lot lauren, i definitely could not have done this w/o your help.

Just an update, I'm not sure if it's just my setup or what but it seems like having it hooked up this way is a good way to check your parameters but is real buggy when you do more advanced things like setting up programs and whatnot. I get a lot of weird symbols when i display my programs, i have tried a bunch of different stuff to fix the problem but i really don't know what i am doing. I thought maybe it was the virtual serial port so i tried using the ip and port instead but i still get the same weird symbols and errors.

i get the same problem, you get a bunch of gibberish data on all your fields. i can only get Status to work and send simple commands to turn on/off/auto any of the 8 power ports but thats it, nothing else works right. it definately has to be something with my serial to ethernet device

Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one at least. I'm about ready to sell this stuff and just buy an ACIII. I really don't want to pay all the extra cash but i have to have ethernet. I would just leave the serial cable hooked up but i get ground loop problems and i really don't want to spend anymore money on this controller. If i add up how much i have spent on this thing i could have just gotten the acIII pro....

I've breezed this thread as I am a new AC Jr. owner with many of the same issues and desires as you guys here. Has ANYONE been able to sustain a successful and productive connection between their serial AC Jr. and their wireless home network in a cost effective manner?

I'm also interested if there are anymore people who have done this mod successfully. It does work, there just has to be a way to have cleaner data coming back to the PC. For the most part my connection works, someitme i just get weird timer names and weird symbols. It seems like it doesn't matter is you use the virtual serial port or just use the ip of the router, the results are the same.

I just ordered an ACIII so no need for me to tinker with the mod anymore but like i said, this one does work, but its just flakey at times.
