serial to wireless ethernet adapter

First make sure the wireless interface is configured correctly and that you can ping it from your network. Next, with the RFC2217 running and the AC connected, telnet to it at the RFC port. You should get the AC prompt. Last, install the Virtual Serial driver on Windows and get AquaNotes to link to it.

Laurentm how are you doing?

Dude, I got rid of my tank and sold everything 8 months ago except the router and ACjr. Luckily I was still subscribed to this thread and saw that Lunchbucket needed a router. I guess it was his lucky day.

Give him a hand to set it up. I totally forgot the whole setup.

If you are wandering why I got rid of the tank here is the short version of the story. I was cleaning the tank and scraped my knuckle against the frogspawn. I got a bad allergic reaction. I had to spend 3 days in the hospital pumping antibiotic on an IV to fix me. Then 4 more days taking antibiotics at home. I have kids to worry about, so I sold the tank Æ'¼ dude my hand looked like a punched a wall and puss coming out of the knuckle that hit the frogspawn.
Anyways thanks for the help back then it really works sweet.

It was his lucky day since I started a thread here a few days back asking if anyone had a modified router they wanted to sell or if they knew someone that sold modifed routers. All I can find are people that do the memory card mod.

laurentm - umm...yeah those directions sound like a foreign language. I think I understand some of it but I'll have to reread the first couple pages...I'm not a network/programing person...so this might take some reading and rereading

I was going to say something but thought maybe I was the only one who didn't understand it. :)

It's really not that hard to set up AquaNotes and router stuff, and Curt will talk you through it all if you have a problem. I needed help and got plenty.

Hey I got it in the mail!! Yippie. I'm off to hook it up. Wish me luck...hope I can get it to work. anyone want to help via yahoo messenger or hotmail messenger if I need help?

Lunchbucket

Yep LOST....umm...I hooked it up but I'm lost. I currently have a wireless router that is not hooked up to a computer (being fixed) and I don't know if this will work to hook it directly to the laptop to program it. Also, I'm lost on how to do that. Anyone? messenger for live help?

This router was hooked up and running as described so I'm not sure what I have to do different to get it going at my place

Sorry for the inconvienience guys

I won't be able to get to it before tonight but here's some troubleshooting you can try in the meantime.

I'm assuming you configured the wireless part and that you can ping the serial modded router at AAA.BBB.CCC.DDD.

First make sure the RFC 2217 support is enabled in the Administration->Management page. The device port should be 7000 and the control port 2000.

Try to telnet to the control port:

C:\> telnet AAA.BBB.CCC.DDD 2000
-> help
exit - leave the program
...
...
-> exit
C:\>

If that works, connect the AC to the router with your serial cable and try to telnet to the device port:

C:\> telnet AAA.BBB.CCC.DDD 7000

Let me know if you can get this to work.

I'm able to telnet to the control port, however I can't telnet to the device port. My cmd screen just has a flashing cursor and locks up.

Any ideas?

Two things could be wrong. The serial cable or the serial mod.

Unplug the serial cable from the router and telnet to the device port (7000). When you type, you should not see anything on the screen, that's normal.

Now, on the serial (DB9) connector on the router, short pin 2 and pin 3 and then type in the telnet session, you should see what you type echoed on the screen.

If this works, then your cable is bad. If it does not work, your serial mod is bad or is using the wrong serial port.

I took the router apart suspecting the mod was an issue and I found the following:

This was an already modified router that I purchased used, so don't make fun of the work because it's not mine!!! :)

Anyway, it looks like there is a disconnected wire. I also noticed that this mod and router board look a lot different than the ones that have been posted.

What do I need to redo this and get this baby up and running?

Thanks for your help!

Unfortunately that's as close as I can get with my camera. I can ge a better camera tomorrow and post them.

Looking at the pictures, it's the wire coming from the router, and to the far right of the ribbon.

laurentm - THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR ALL THE HELP

Just need to get our desktop back from being fixed and set it up on there so that I can have it run 24/7

I have an AC jr.

Instead of a wireless router, I have a serial to ethernet converter. I then have the ethernet cabel running to a router that is hokked up to my PC. I might be having a similar situation to what others are having, but Im not sure.

I can log into the serial to ethernet adapter just fine. However, I cant "see" the Ac jr. So my question is how do I "see" the AC jr when I have it hooked up via serial cable to ethernet to router? Im guessing there is some setting in the router I need? Does my non wireless router need to be setup like the wireless routers explained in this thread?

Im missing something. I appreciate your help.
