sertosa question

I have a small frag of sertosa that i got quite a bit ago. it did decent but was extremely slow growing (normal I think). It has within the last month or so started to slowly loose its orange color and turn somewhat faded to white and orange. Right now it is close to the bottem under 10k. I did have two supplemental t5s that I took out awhile back that were blue + bulbs. i have 2 new diy led lights that are more in the 20k range that I could put it under. what kindof light and flow does this coral like? Everything else in the tank looks great but a german blue poly that has great pe but no blue polyps. Any ideas would be great.

The setosa and german blue can be a little tricky. A little more detail about your tank would help. How is the polyps extension? Mine is in moderate flow and moderate light. Good luck.

I have a 180 gallon tank using 2 mp40s for circulation. my lighting now is one 10k 250 watt halide and (2) 35 led diy lights. All parameters test good. the only difference that I have changed lately is playing around with 10k and 20k lighting, and the taking out the supplementation of t-5s. I get great pe with the german blue but havent ever really gotten any pe with the sertosa. It was growing pretty well for awhile but now it has been loosing it color. I think I will try and move it to another side of the tank that is lit with leds in the 20k color range.

They are hardy IMO but can light shock easily and bleach.You probably shocked it a bit with the LEDs or lighting changes

here is mine under a Radium with VHO actinics.grew from a frag in 6 months

as far as the GBP.It is also hardy but requires low nutrients and high light and flow to look its best.here is a shot of mine

Those are beautiful corals and pictures. I hope that the setosa will recover. I moved it under different lighting tonight and will watch it closely.

Jeff, I also think changing your lights from halides to halides plus LEDs negatively impacted your setosa. I currently place my setosa at the very bottom of my reef tank ...they prefer less light than most other SPS and will be one of the first corals to show signs of distress when not happy.

As for your German Blue, generally when the polyps turn brown it is a sign of excess nutrients in your system.

my setosa is the fastest growing coral in my tank. are your alk levels up to snuff? I can almost see it growing before my eyes when I does alk by the end of the day. I got moderate flow and its about 10 inchs under my 4 bulb t5 and its almost too much for it.
