Set-Up Help with Apex Jr.

Well, My first post in this forum and I join the masses with setup issues...

Last week I tested my new Apex Jr, with the supplied ethernet cable, powered it up, and all was fine. I left it for 24 hours and no issues, router communication, etc. I can see it on my browser and it looks like things are going to be easy!

Today, I run a new ethernet cable to my reef tank, fire up the Apex Jr and the green light doesn't come on. I power up again, reset the router and still nothing.

Maybe my newly run ethernet cable is bad? So I re-terminate the ends, and test and get the same problem. I test the new cable with my laptop and it works! The router also shows this light as another connection.

I troubleshoot again and hook the Apex Jr back up with the supplied ethernet cable and it works (i.e. green light). I try the newly run ethernet cable and nothing. I know this cable is okay, so I am a little confused??

Since I know the new cable works, I hook it up again, but it still makes no communication to the router (no green light). I try the supplied ethernet cable again and now it doesn't work this time. Try again and same situation. Now I am getting really confused.

So the facts at the moment:

1. Newly run Ethernet cable has conductivity - so I know it works
2. Apex Jr. Powers on- yellow light only
3. Router does not recognize the new connection either

My plan will be to leave it connected overnight and see if any magic happens while I am sleeping!:debi:

Any ideas, I will listen.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Tyler

I think it's going to be that cable. You've got some sort of intermittent connection problem in one of the ends.

the supplied cable doesn't work either now?

Well, that's a new data point. I suppose the ethernet jack on the controller could be faulty, loose or shorting. Have you looked at the wires inside the jack - are any of them visibly bent more than the others? Can you plug the cable in and push the connector to one side or the other and see the lights change?

The ethernet jack looks okay, without any bent wires. I tried to wiggle the connection and it did not activate the green light.

I also tried running it directly from the modem instead of through the router and it still did not activate the green ethernet light.

Just a point of clarification.... the status light starts yellow than blinks a few times, then turns green. I think this is working.

Any other suggestions??

Thanks again for all of your suggestions.

tried all ports again in my router and nothing seems to get the green ethernet light to function.

Is there a way to reset the unit?

maybe try something again in the morning??

Tried a new router, and its not communicating.

Its on its way back for testing and hopefully a replacement. According to Curt, they have not had any issues like this with the Apex Jrs.

FWIW, I've noticed that mine cuts out occasionally and I'll have to refresh the page once or twice before it'll connect. Very well may be a problem with my router though. A Little annoying but nothing I can 't live with. It has never cut out for an extended basis though or, as in your case, permanently. Good luck!

Well, it looks like my original Apex Jr was defective. Apparently, it was the first defective unit identified, probably a faulty electronic component?

I recently received a new one and so far things are looking good. Just need to figure out the programming now.

Thanks everyone for your help!

I am sure to be back with a few more questions.
