Sexy Shrimp (From the "How Many Shrimp for a 46 GAl)

OK, my questions from my other post are now going to be here.

So will they host LPS corals or anemonies? Would they share an anemone with 2 clownfish or not? I plan to get the following corals:

-Alvepora -trumpet Coral
-Frogspawn -Red open Brain Coral (I already have a green one though too)
-Duncan/Whisker Coral
-Tree Leather
-Toadstool Leather

Will Sexy Shrimp host any of these or does anyone have some that do host these corals?

Next, I also have a Coral Banded Shrimp in my 46 gal, does anyone else have a coral banded shrimp with sexy shrimp? I'm afraid the coral banded might eat them or hurt them once I get them, but they should be safe if they are hosting something big right? I also have two 1 1/4 inch long anemone shrimp and they haven't been harmed by my coral banded, so sexy shrimp should be ok then right?

And do Sexy Shrimp have those little fins that most shrimp use to swim around, and if they do have those things, do they use them to avoid predators?

And last, how often do they need to be fed, do they need to be spot fed, or will they catch their own food?

Well, I can answer a few of your questions. In my tank they can mostly be found on a large rock anemone but on a daily basis they also spend some time in one of 2 torch corals and a bubble tip that is owned, and I do mean owned, by a mated pair of maroon clowns. They eat whatever I feed the tank and I don't think it would be a good idea to have a banded coral shrimp with them. Anemone shrimp tend to stay in the anemone they are hosting - so that is probably why the banded coral doesn't bother them. As I said above, mine move around all day long, they climb on rocks too and eat stuff in the sandbed.

Sexy shrimp as far as I know do not swim, they just walk around.

Sexy shrimp are sluts! They'll host anything.
Clownfish do not seem to tolerate shrimp in their anemones.

They can swim, given an incentive. I do not have any at the moment, but I do have a small Floridian anenome shrimp and it swims very fast if I get near it. It does hold itself like a sexy, but i don't think it sways....

I have a few sexy shrimp (the red ones, not the clear anenome ones). They come VERY small, 1/4" to 1/2", and if you have any fish in there, make sure you use like a brine shrimp net and put them as close to a coral or bottom of a rock as possible otherwise they're likely to get eaten. Mine will bolt if i put my hand too close to them, so they do have some kind of swimming ability, but mostly I see them walking around struttin their stuff... they sway with the water current so they don't get seen as easily. Most of the time mine hang in my xenia which is fairly close to a torch coral, but have never seen them in the latter... but I've only had them a little over a week.

They change colors too which is cool. When I opened the box they came in and looked in their bags, they were green, now they're just red. I'm sure it's to camo themselves into whatever coral they're in. Cool little shrimp though, I'm thinking of getting another 2-3 and having a little colony.

You said that my coral banded shrimp hasn't bothered my anemone shrimp because they are hosting an anemone, well mine don't host anything, they are urocaridella and they just swim around the tank. They actually hang out right where the coral banded is, the coral banded shri tries to attack sometimes, but the bolt out of the way. I think hat as long as they are hosting something, they should be ok right?

I just returned my green clown goby because it wasn't eating and I didn't want it to die, so the sexy shrimp should be able to host my big tree leather coral. And I don't think sexy shrimp would host an anone thats hosting three ocelaris clowns at night, the clowns would probably attack them.

So having sexy shrimp with a coral banded should be ok given that my anemone shri done host anything and they have survived this long. And they should be ok in a coral or anemone they would host right? Because my coral banded has ventured to where my clownfish were, and it doesn't bother them because the are in an anemone.

they can swim...
actually they kinda dart around...
i have two sexy shrimp in a 30 gallon
with a filamented wrasse
2 cleaner shrimp
1 peppermint shrimp
1 pistol....

and when the cleaner shrimp (leon and matilda) try to grab them or touch them....boy george and george micheal will "dart" away...pretty fast actually....then continue to strut their stuff...

they stay pretty high in the tank so im not really worried about attila the shirmp (the pistol) roughing them up...

as for the wrasse (little horus) we will see

OK, that sounds promising that you have that many shrimp in a 30 gal. I have 3 more shrimp in a 46 so I think everything should be ok. I'm going to buy one just to see how it does since they are $17 at my lfs. I think they should be ok.

Are there any fish that will harm them?

I have:
-Diamond Watchman Goby (who occasionally trys to eat my glass anemone shrimp, but they swim away)
-3 Ocelllaris Clowns (I plan to return one once a pair is established)
-1 Firefish
-1 Green Chromis
-1 Midas Blenny

Any of these fish threats to them?

Oh yeah, the last thing, I read on some articles online that they eat algea growing from the rocks. Is this true? Thanks

All shrimp can swim using their paddles, but some do so more than others. Sexy shrimp will host anything, and they dont stay tied to one host, but move from one to the next as they forage. They dont really eat algea, more detritus and meaty foods. They look wonderful in large groups of 10 or more and they spawn very large babies, bigger in fact than cleaner shrimp babies.

Are their young easy to take care of or should I just leave them for the fish if they do spawn once I get them?

i wish these guys weren't so expensive for how small they are. I'd like to have a group of 10! I think I'm just gonna add 2 every time I do an online order until I get there. Mine moved from my xenia to my ricordea... cool little shrimp.

Dont know, I've never tried. I guess they would need the same care as other shrimp larvea, feeding rotifers and such. I have a few epmty tanks lying around so maybe i will give it go. They are ridiculously expensive, $12 each here (£6) at the cheapest shops. Could get a couple of nice fairy wrasses for that

When they are in groups, do they search for food in groups? Will they stay with eachother for protection, then when they are frightened, will they retreat to to the nearest possible host? They must look so cool as a group of ten.

Also, I just got an anemone shrimp, will they be aggressive to eachother?

i'm doing an order for some stuff tonight, I'll have 3 more by wednesday for a total of 5! Half way to the "cool" group . My 2 stay fairly close to eachother, but don't hang out next to each other very often. They've moved all over the tank in the last few weeks.

They kind of hang out together, but if they feel secure and dont have anything scaring them they do drift around the tank, but always stay close to a coral or anemone.

The mose solitary percilimines (sp) anemone shrimps will chase them away from their hosts, as will anemone crabs and clownfish, but most dont manage to catch sexy's.

I just got my order from bluezoo today, 3 sexy shrimp among other things.. guess what, one of the shrimp in their display must have spawned because I had about 50 or so shrimp fry hanging out in my shipping bags! I tried to catch as many as I could and put them in my fuge w/ my macros to see if any of them will actually make adult hood. These 3 were a little bigger than the last ones I got from Marine Depot. It'll be cool if they start to spawn in my tank. I just read somewhere else that another guy's sexy's were eating his polyps.. hopefully mine don't do that, or I'll be transfering all my corals to another tank!

Fantastic! do tell how the babies get on, though its doubtful they will make it without specialised care you may get lucky. They are quite large for baby shrimp are they not? I dont think they eat polyps, maybe graze on mucus which is protien rich and most hosting shrimps do this anyway.
