Finally got around to taking a pic of my tank. Crappy pic, but its the best I can do for now.

it looks so much better in person
thanks for sharing jeff

Thanks everyone. Sean, your tank is looking great.
I'm also amazed that there are so many people in the SFV with nice tanks. Maybe we could all arrange to meet some how. In the mean time if anyone is bored and wants to swing by and talk fish just let me know.

wow scallopking...thats an awesone tank you too jabel makes my tank look like kindergarten...and i thought all the good stuff was only in orange county

Vivid is the best. I haven't been anywhere else that compares. I'd say the best way to get nice stuff is from your fellow reefers and swaps. There is a swap in Ventura coming up soon.

Speaking of...what are the best LFSes in the SFV? I go to Vivid, but they are expensive. Any other recommendations for quality corals and/or dry goods?
vivid is the best, but best often = pricey.

if you're looking for acans and micros, aquarium works in NoHo is good. they're starting to expand their selection to include acros/sps, but their main focus at the moment is acans.

another place that's got a great selection of everything, but is not in the valley, is fragglereef over near the 405/10 interchange. not too far a drive, and easily do-able on a sunday when traffic is light.

but there don't seem to be as many nice places in the valley compared to south bay and OC.

Panorama City here!

Coco.. we still need to swap some frags :)

Jeff, how's it going? Your tank's lookin good. I'd love to swing by sometime.

Thanks for the LFS tips all.

Well, I do not mind Vivid's price too much, but last time I was there I spotted Valonia, Bryopsis, and HA in much of their frag tanks (even on the acan frag plugs). Not appreciated, especially if I am paying extra $$$. I also looked through their WYSIWYG stock, and I did not think the coloration of the corals was as intense as the web site photos. The Mother Colony tank looks amazing as usual, so perhaps I will ask if I could have frags directly out of there... ;)

All in all, Vivid is still a cut above in terms of selection and quality.

Aquarium Works was disappointing the first 2-3 times I visited. Little inventory and Aiptasia in their LR tank. The proprietors seem cool, so I still remain hopeful. I think they moved across the street now, and it sounds as if their inventory is better now, so I think I may go check them out tomorrow.

LOL, I will have to chum up to Jabel and Gooli first... ;) I am still a greenhorn with coral husbandry (2 years now), so my tank is mostly easy LPS and SPS for now. Perhaps I'll see some SFV people at the swap...

aquarium works did move across the street from where they were. and they brought their aiptasia with them ;) haha. some of their display nanos have big aptasias in them.

but that aside, i haven't found another place with as many acan frags as they have, and a pretty good selection of acans at that. the frags themselves don't look to be infested...but i always inspect them in the water and out. of the dozen or more that i've bought, only one or two had small aps on them which i burned off and/or covered in super glue.

i agree with your comment on vivid and the algae on their frags. for those prices, they should be pretty close to pristine. i bought a frag from them that had bryopsis and dictyotl. still fighting off the bryopsis, but i think (fingers crossed) the dictyotl is gone. but the piece was nice and the price was right...maybe that's why it was relatively cheap, lol.

I try to QT all my stuff, but have learned, the hard way, that nearly all frags have to be remounted or else you will be inviting this crap into your DT. Unfortunately, acan frags, can have algae growth on exposed portions of their skeletons, so guaranteeing its removal is not always possible.

I'm about to post free cheato on the main board, but figured I'd put it here 1st. If you want some come and get it otherwise its going in the trash.

what happen to SFV reef?

Oh yeah. So I guess we should make a list of who is in this "club" and when and where we want to meet. Or maybe we should just pick out a first meeting time and place and see who shows up. Anybody have ideas on where would be a good place to meet?
