Shades Zoas dying

I bought a zoa frag about a month ago. All the polyps were relatively small. They have grown substantially since then but as they have grown some of the polyps got shaded over by the top ones and have died off. Is that normal?

as long as the colony continues to grow I wouldn't be too worried. Makes sense that since corals need light to survive, ones that get shaded out die.

Yea it happens. Nothing to worry about, however, if you want you can always try to frag them off and put them on a piece of rock rubble or something. THey may not make it since they are already weak. Personally i would try it, but natural selectio is a process that has worked since the dawn of time, you dont need to help it out. lol
