Shallow reef build

With your canopy and the stained glass, have you built it yet? Was thinking maybe put stained glass sections one on each side. Not too large or small, maybe some sort of saying or dedication to your girl on the front piece.

The tank looks pretty rad so far!

I haven't built it yet but I am starting this weekend, I am going to make the stained glass myself so I think that should be enough to make my girl happy. I am either going to make the canopy have three hinged swing up doors with strips of stained glass on the upper half of the doors. Or actually do more of a floating canopy with most of the flip up doors as stained glass, that would make it actually look like a lamp over the tank which would be awesome! But it would be a lot of work and the cat would be able to get in if he wanted on the side where the railing is. So I would have to think of a way to keep him at bay and have it look good too.

Yea I thought about that, I think if I go that route I will put plexiglass over the rails and eggcrate on the side of the tank to keep him out. I think the hanging lamp style canopy would be freaking awesome! Plus I won't have to worry about heat buildup since it will hover a few inches above the tank.

Super cool idea. I like the shallow tanks. The red scooter is one of the coolest fish I think. Keep the pics coming.

Here is the tank, now we got a few fish in there although they are not for this tank they are just to help get the tank going. They are going into the big tank. Finally some algae now that I hung a light. Now its time to sit and wait, and also start on the freakin canopy!

This is pretty great. I also like lagoon tanks. I have a narrow 55g, but that will change when I get a house/more room.

Nice diatom bloom. Looks like you're well on your way. Also, I like the color of lights that you settled on.

Instead of trying to coat your stained glass, you could always mount your stained glass from the front and mount a piece of clear acrylic/plexiglass to the back. No salt creep :D

I also like LPS and polyps. I'll suggest ricordea mushrooms too, as they'll add more colors and can survive in the same environment. Good luck! Subscribed!

Yesterday I took the frag tank offline so I can treat the bryopsis. Bought a ton of peppermints for the glass anemones. The ph droped to 7.4 and stuff looked horrible today. One of the shrimp died, will see how it all turns out. I am just glad it's offline the system should run better without it.

Still fighting the bryopsis, mag is at 1850 right now. Hopefully it starts to die soon because the little tank is much harder to keep everything happy in.

On another note I got the lights hung! No canopy but I put a few tester corals in there just to see how things are doing. The fish are going in the sps tank when the others are ready to come out of qt. I think its just two weeks til then so I will update when the fish and a few more corals go in :)

For now here is a fts...

Okay so I found a canopy and cut it to fit. Havent put any stained glass in it yet but I am going to design it with my mom tomorrow. I need to install a fan in the canopy and the algaes and everything are finally going good in the tank. A handful of "tester" corals have been tossed in also. Everthing doing well so far.

I put the koran and the rabbitfish in my large tank. The fish that made it into the tank and made the qt stay are...

ember blenny
the male red scooter
two firefish
three cardinals
Next is to find a small tang that will help clean up, when he gets to big we can just toss it in the large tank.

Awesome build, really like shallow tanks. Looking forward to seeing what you do with the canopy, stained glass sounds pretty classy :artist:
If it's not too much trouble I'd love to see a picture of your Ember Blenny, I haven't seen them around before
GLWB!

Thanks! I will try and get some decent pics of it for you. The ember blenny is starting to look really nice too.

Really love the foot print of the tank. Would be awesome as a zoa/paly, ric and shroom tank with something funky for a centerpiece. The pair of Helfrichis is sweet.
Should be a great looking tank as the corals go in and the rock ages.

The ember blenny is impossible to photograph! Otherwise there are lots of zoas doing well, but lots of cyano. The sps testers from the big tank are still living and growing so that's good.
