Shallow reef tank Club

needs more sand to fill the outside of it, but 40x30x12 with a 4" sandbed so 8" of water a true shallow tank. Most of these are too tall

Hey guys new to reef central. Saw this thread and decided join as a shallow reef has always been my dream tank. Now to the question, I have been looking at two different tanks from two different manufacturers, first I could get a 36 x 18 x 12 acrylic tank from glass cages pre-drilled, overflow box, for 185 but I have not found out shipping yet. Second I could get a 36 x 36 x 14 pre drilled, overflow, from advanced acrylics for 700 shipped. I'm not sure of I want a 36 x 36 because it seems huge but you guys know these tanks better than me so tell me what you think. Tell me what you guys think. Thanks!

The trick is to get the size if tank that would fit best in the area it will be displayed. Choose a size based on the available area for a tank.

If you ask us, we will almost say the bigger the better, because quite frankly, we love our reefs.

Only you will have to live with your tank's looks in your house.

My approach:::
Buy good equipment, replace less
Buy the biggest possible, avoid upgrade

Hi fellow shallow tank reefers :)
I usually read here but I think it is time to start writing. My name is Meirav and I'll be joining the exclusive shallow reef club soon with a costume made 24 X 24 X 14 tank. I'm really excited about it. I'm not new to the hobby but I wouldn't say i'm a pro and it's been a couple of years since I owned a tank.
I would like to consult you regarding my LED fixture.
I bought this fixture and i'm not sure how far from the water I should hang it. Any idea? Ideally I would like to have a mixed reef.

Thanks so much!

So true! Advise I wished I would have adhered to when I started.

My tank is a 36x18x12 starphire with diy stand. Im running a trigger sump reef octopus skimmer brs reactors and a reefkeeper controler. Its lit by a 160 watt 16000k razor. 1 mp10, will be getting another. Posting pics from phone, sorry.

A awesome thread.

A awesome thread.

Hey SRC members, I've started reading this awesome thread and decided to jump forward to put my name on here. I have a shallow nano ATM and I'm about to take down my 67g and change it for a 42g shallow. Here's my nano, it's still fairly new so not many corals in it ATM and some macros of my Acan. The tank is 18"+12"+12". Edit: sorry guys just remembered that the tank needs to be wider that height, I guess my nano doesn't then.

Looking at starting a shallow reef tank as I had a full crash of my SPS tank when I moved last weekend :( I need a new start.

I am thinking of a 36x36x18 sort of tank. Does anyone run this set up and if so, how do you like it? Anything you would change etc? I would also love to run ATI T5 but want to make sure I would cover the full tank. Any thoughts on this? Thanks!

I'm excited to join the shallow reef club! Always wanted a shallow reef.
Here's my downgrade! 23 Gallons (30x15x12)
