shark tank

has anyone here used a poly rubbermaid stock tank for sharks or rays? one of the 300+ gallon ones.
I've also seen a different polyurethane style round tanks (6ft x 2 ft deep & 8ft x 2ft)

do you think any of these would work?

thoughts for a future tank

Yes, I am using a thousand gallon stock tank as a pond in my garage and have been for two- three years now. It definitely is a great idea for keeping sharks because a.) a lot of them are circular shape which is better for the shark (no bumping their heads into the wall), and b.) are much more cheaper than any tank that size. They are easily drillable for plumbing to another stock tank/sump. In my pond I have a pair of white spotted bamboo sharks, a panther grouper, two yellow tail snapper, niger triggerfish, and a volitans lionfish. All are doing great, I've had the sharks for years and they are thriving. Its definitely the right path to take for shark.

I, too would love to see your setup!

Also, beware of the Niger Trigger, when he gets close to adulthood and becomes more bold, he may begin to nip at the shark's body, and probably, its eyes. This could lead to death.

Oh! I don't know how I forgot but I have a 2 foot tesseletta eel as well, kind of hard to miss lol. Thanks for the warning, but I'm not too worried about the niger for he is only 4 inches while the sharks are 3 feet. I realize he will get bigger and may try nipping at something new but the sharks aren't like your standard bottom cat sharks. These things are almost always moving and can be quite aggressive at times so I'm not too worried about them.
Anyways, about the pictures, I'm gone at college now but my brother takes care of them at our house back in Palos Heights. I do have some pictures but they are old and have some older inhabitants that we brought into our lfs. Currently the tank has all of the fish I labeled in the post above and the eel, everything else in these pictures you see are no longer in the pond. But anyways, heres some older pictures....

The pair of white spotted bamboos when they were a lil smaller, im trying to get them to lay eggs, they have mated in the past...

Unfortunately we don't have any pictures up of the yellow tail snapper, lionfish, or the trigger but you get a pretty good idea on the setup.

What is the diameter on that tank? I am looking for a smaller tank as a holding system for my larger pool and that looks like it would work perfectly for what I need.

Honestly, I forget the dimensions I think its 10 ft wide by 3 ft deep maybe? I'm not too sure, I can call my brother if you want, he knows for sure. Let me know if you need exact dimensions and I can get em for ya.
Thanks for the compliments guys, I appreciate it. Reefergeorge, if you notice there is a fridge in the back of the first pic lol. There have been a number of times where I just walk in that garage and don't come out for an hour or so. The feedings are amazing the two snapper actually school together, the eel eats whole things of squid, its very interesting.
I don't know if any of these stores are located by you or not in PA, mattiej. But by us we got the containers from a store in Indiana called Farm and Fleet I believe its called. We picked up the whole pond itself from the store for 250 bucks I believe, not bad for a 1000 gallon tank. Id try checking into a store like that.

There is a Tractor Supply locally that has stock tanks in the 500-800 gallon range and are about 8 feet in diameter with two foot depth. These are going for around $200 but I was looking for something a little bit bigger without having to go with truck freight charges. Anyway nice set up, looks great! I'll have to get some new picks of my set up on line soon.

How big are you thinking about going? Sounds like its gonna be nice, definitely let me know when you pick up the pond, what kind of sharks are you planning on keeping? So many choices with such a big pond.

mattiej, I just noticed you have a 35,000 shark lagoon, thats amazing. Where is it set up? What is it made of, and what livestock do you have in there (focusing on the sharks as well)? That sounds amazing, any pics?

If you click the little red house on his post you get what looks to be one pic of the pond containing what appears to be a shovelhead hammerhead!

That, actually, looks like a Juvenile Atlantic Sharpnose.

The lagoon is housed in a separate sunroom from my main house. It was constructed much the same way as an in-ground pool and was sealed with many many many coats of two part epoxy. The actual gallonage is around 25,000.

Both of you are correct in that the lagoon houses juvenile and adult Atlantic sharpnoses and bonnethead sharks. There are also smooth dogfish, fine tooth (incorrectly called 'mini bulls'), and spiney dogfish. I did have some black tip reef sharks but they were not getting along with the Atlantic themed idea I was developing. I am looking at obtaining some chained dogfish, actually a catshark from the deep Atlantic but have not found a source as of yet.
