Sharks/Rays with coral

Will a shark or ray destroy the coral that is in their tank?

Yes, you can put them together, just make sure your coral is in place firmly so the shark won't knock it over. Also it is best not to have any stinging corals (i.e. hammerheads and anemones)

Sometimes, depends on what type of coral. Don't keep any sharp or stinging corals in its tank. I've heard of Horn Sharks eating anemones.

You're not doing this in your 72g are you?

they nock it over alot if its close to the bottom and no stinging corals..... there is no possible way you can fit any shark in a 72 gal comfortably

lol of course im not going to put a shark or ray in my 72g, im upgrading to a 220g. Im either going to keep a coral cat, round stingray, or a brown banded ( I would only keep the brown banded for about 2 years depending on its growth rate.

Stingrays need an open sandbed, and corals need rocks so those don't really go. I would recommend a marble cat shark(a close relative of the coral cat) they only get 22 or so inches and are more docile than their cousin.

do not get a ray or a brownbanded for a 220g, both will outgrow it. rays do better in square or circle tanks, because of their disc shape. and brownbandeds will quickly outgrow that (not 2 years, but less than a year, they can hit 24 inches depending on their feeding/eating habits, mine grew 5 inches in a month recently).

and please please please please (did i say please enough) never buy a shark or ray with plans of getting rid of it. if you are planning on getting a brownbanded, get a bigger tank. It drives me nuts when people buy sharks and rays with the intention of gettin rid of it when it gets too large.

Had to let her go a few days ago, ran into some serious financial troubles (lets just say, my school royally screwed me, but thats a whole other story) and had to use the money for her pond on tuition.
She grew 3 1/2 inches since I took that video.

limitedslip, what all do you feed your girl? The only thing Farrah eats right now is squid and mysis shrimp. I've tried feeding her fresh fish flesh, Shark Formula Food by Ocean Nutrition, fresh shrimp, krill and many other things but she just refuses to eat them.

Notheless, she's healthy and fat as can be!

Heres a list of things she will eat w/o hesitation:

Krill
Salad Shrimp
Squid
Clam
Nautalis
Silverside
mysis cubes
brine cubes
Formula one Fish gel cubes
Formula one shark cubes
Ocean Nutrition angel/butterfly mix

I tried to vary her diet, she got at least 3 different ones per week. She seemed to do very well with that. Try cutting up the cubes into 8ths or so if she is not nipping at them.
