Shelby's reef

Well it's time for an upgrade, I'm having built a custom 60l x 36w x 24h three sided starphire with starphire eurobrace and all polished edges. It will have an internal c2c overflow with beananimal drain.

Here's a sketch

started on the stand

Built a spill pan into the base:

added the second layer:

Waterproofing the entire inside with shower rubberized membrane:

it just needs topcoat now:

And doors:rollface:

can anyone help me with deciding on the correct height for the c2c overflow? It will be smooth, no teeth to restrict water, i was told typically the toothed overflows are put 1 1/2" from the bottom of the eurobrace but they cause surface tension so a smooth overflow should be able to go a little higher, but i dont want waves or current causing the water to splash out if the level is too high.

I appreciate your input and experience with this.

I found a nifty calculator online while looking for a diy aquarium glass calculator it says that with 36" wide and 1cm of water height above the weir would allow 5700g an hour of flow, 2000gph for 5mm height. Thats with sharp cut edges, rounded edges should push 50% more but i would bet on the lower flow side. So .5 cm would allow flow, I would be more worried about waves and splash, I would probably go 1.5", maybe 1".

Looks like it's going to be a nice one.

Awesome woodworking skills. Overall nice setup.

thankyou very much, i enjoy woodworking and this build im making sure it water proofed and no mdf or particle board, all real wood

thanks for the info, its amazing how much more flow can have with a smooth c2c overflow over the typical toothed ones. Being that I will have a euro brace, im leaning towards 1" so with the eurobrace it should be around 1 1/2" total, I wonder if that is enough especially since I will have vortech's in the tank

anyone have personal experience with this length of overflow and a good height to put?:spin1:

Do you have the name of the product that you used inside of the stand and where did you purchase? Was it easy to roll on?

Can't wait for the finish product tagging along for sure!!
Thanks for tagging along, I can't wait too
Tagging along too. Beautiful stand, can't wait to see the tank filled up.
Thanks summit, you have big project to do also

Damn!! You have awesome wood working skills. Can't wait till its done, hope you don't mind if I tag along.
Thank you Eddie, please tag along

Nice work on the stand looks very cool.
Thank you

Agree with everyone on the woodwork...If you are doing more, I'd like to see the pictures of it all....
