So i was walking by my tank the other day and noticed this dude just cruising along over some zoos i have. He is hard to describe but looks like a snail that lost his shell. Any ideas what this could be? Sorry the pictures aren't great. My camera won't take close-ups and I haven't seen him but this once...

ha i totally thought the same thing! looks JUST like a tiny little toad! but, of course it's a stomatella and does infact have a shell though it looks like it doesn't (looks like a slug)

Just strange as I have not added any snails, livestock, or LR for almost 2 years and have NEVER seen him.

My first thought was that maybe it was a snail with a very small shell of some sort - i looked very carefully and did not see ANY shell. The top appeared to be the same consistency as the rest of him (changing shapes and not rigid). He looks exactly like a little slug :)

ANd compared to the other snails in my system, he was sprinting across the tops of the zoos.

anyway - thanks for the help guys.

yep they are super fast and appear from no where it seems. i really honestly didn't believe they had a shell either so i touched one :)

i probably have 200 of these in my 75 gallon tank that has only been up since may. they must have just came on my liverock and multiplied. they eat the algae of my glass though, and detris off the sand bed.

Stomatella. I had an explosion of this species in my tank for a while, then they died off. They are beneficial algae eaters.
