shipped BTA arrived in TERRIBLE shape... any hope?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought you wouldn't need to acclimate the nem to light because it has no zooxanthellae anymore? I thought light acclimation was just not to shock the zoox because the organism could expel the zoox, and it appears your nem probably has none left unfortunately. Also, that could've been the guts that were in the bag, expelled zoox looks like stringy brown stuff

I honestly have no idea whether shipping with lots of water or very little is better, there are probably arguments for both sides - as with everything in this hobby it seems :rolleye1: anyone have any info on that offhand?

I didn't do a whole lot of light acclimation because my lighting isn't that strong... I think if I had something stronger I may have been a little more concerned about that. I kinda just left them on as long as the nem seemed to tolerate it, when it started shrinking up I turned the lights off for the day. After 2-3 days of that, it quit hiding from the lights. It basically acclimated itself.

I'm kinda a fan of lights out in general after new additions to the tank, seems to be one less stressful thing for the already stressed fish/coral/invert. Just my .02 :p

I'm not totally convinced that he's without all his zoo's... I swear he's turning more green already! I'll post more pictures tomorrow when the lights are on :bounce3:

Update

Almost a month later, Frank is still alive and thriving:celeb3: He hasn't gotten much bigger, but his tentacles are filling out and getting longer (and greener!) Anyone know why he has stubby short thin tentacles instead of nice long ones or bubbly ones?

At this point, I rarely target feed him. He mainly snags food out of the water column with sticky tentacles. He doesn't seem to eat very well, the few times I have target fed, even tiny tiny pieces. But other than that, everything is going great! Oh except he continues to be un-photogenic and faces the back of the tank :furious: lol

Hard to tell true size in this one he's partially folded at the bottom... See the green? :bounce3:

great comeback! Those BTA are hardy. I just moved with my tank and noticed a BTA that I missed in the cleaning process because it was attached to the tank itself in an area that was hidden from view... it survived the 6 hours moving out of the water!
(please dont use this as a recommendation for moving BTA :D )

Looking good glad to see the color. I got a maxi mini that's about the same color wise starting to get pink back now.

55 gal mixed reef 10 gal SPS Dom.

Nice progress! When I first got my bta it has a similar coloration to your most recent photo. Like a jade green color but still somewhat translucent tentacles. Now almost a year later he is healthy and showing a nice green color with some orange colorations as well.
