shipped BTA arrived in TERRIBLE shape... any hope?

No mush... it will wash away...

On the scallops: Start out freezing it and cutting it into slivers. Then you can work your way up. Only cut as much as you need. Soon you will be able to cut off larger chunks.

Shrimp.

Before you freeze cut into pea size peices. Put into ziplock bag. Squeeze all air out. Press/squeeze the shrimp around so that they are not touching as best as possible. Lay flat in freezer and freeze. Slap/bang one on counter and they will usually break apart and fall to the bottom of the bag. Then you can pull one piece out and thaw in tank water.

One shrimp (xl size) will last me about 2-3+ weeks. One round 2 inch scallop will last me over a month.

Think of it this way: your next anemone will be a piece of cake. I think we've all had that one pain in the butt one, I know I have!

Thanks for the food tips worm - that makes total sense and much more efficient than what i was planning! LOL

So is there a difference in bleaching of a nem as far as whether its been in poor care and bleached due to that, vs. a stress event causing "emergency" bleaching? Like... was my guy bleached and unhealthy before i got him or did he bleach like that from shipping stress?

1 week update!

1 week update!

Happy 1 week "birthday" :hb2: He's still facing the back corner of the tank, so he's not being very photogenic :furious: (had to be creative for this first shot, it was interesting... lol)

Here he is just hangin out :spin2:

And here under the nighttime actinics... Do I see maybe a tiny bit of green glowing in there? I would like to think so

you can get zooxanthellae from algagen they just started bottling it that might help him get his symbiotic algae and color back and feed feed feed

Feeding or not is up to debate.

I've had my BTA a few years. The only feeding it gets is when the fish are fed, and the lighting. It does very nicely with that arrangement. The only anemone I've never directly fed.

Thank you!! He's still doing great, he's looking pretty much the same but he's eating thin tiny pieces of salmon every couple days, and has settled into his spot for now. He has picked a low flow area in the lee of a big rock that's under the powerhead. Looking more green, but hard to capture the color with my cell phone camera :thumbdown

The main reason this 'nem lived was because of help and advice from all you fellow reefers... I as well was extremely on the fence about giving him a chance!!! I want to stress that I think the best thing I did for this guy was basically to just let him do his thing and leave him alone. I provided good water quality, and food when he seemed ready to eat. Everything else this guy did on his own! Due to this whole crazy experience and seeing how dynamic and individual these creatures really are, I have developed a whole new obsessive love with anemones :love2: .....uh oh :headwally:

Thanks again guys!!! I will update with some pics soon!! Cheers!

LOL he's saving himself for the maroon that I'm gonna add in a few months after he's gotten healthy enough!

I will make sure it's healthy, and small too! I don't want it to "rough love" my nem after all this hard work so it will be awhile!! lol I will take it nice and slow... and small... lol

Eventually I want a pair :love2: but that may have to wait for the upgrade

Well done Zimmer and good for you! Seems like your nem is on the right path. Chopped up clams are a great food too. Search for PaulB thread on it.

I would agree too on being careful with the maroon! I have a pair and the female is so aggressive!

Good luck and keep us posted. Would be great to see a picture when it's colour comes back!
