I am glad you RC guys do this. Running a BBS is a lot of work. Everytime some banned MARS member says "why don't we just do it on the MARS website" I have to review my prenups to make sure I won't be sleeping on the street after my wife divorces me for forgetting her name.
Brian,
I am glad to hear that. Until about two weeks ago, I was unsure if I was going to stay in the area. Luckily, (questionable for you guys), I did find one. I have been off all week, and may have noticed on here quite a lot.
Its really too bad, because as you may see I am "a little" vocal on bettering the club a most likely would have considered running for one of the BOG slots if I had known earlier. I am really interested in the overall direction and the big picture of the club and believe that was the main function of that office if I am correct on the duties of that position. However, my time may still be limited so until I am sure that I could dedicate the time, I will have to just relegate myself to my self apointed title of "blowhard windbag".
Regardless, I am glad that you feel that way about the RC forum. I have been thinking a great deal about the offsite club forums and believe that they potentially isolate a club from getting as much interaction with other local clubs, as decrease the odds for new people to "stumble in" and stay around, which is vital for recruitment and insuring a future. I don't think we have the online participation to support such a venture.
On the subject of past, present and future, I want to publicly thank you, Bruce and anyone else that has stood by and allowed the club to heal itself and regain its momentum. I have found your patience, leadership, and dedication most admirable when we needed it the most.
In light of recent events, I had been reviewing other threads from a year, two years, and more back. I found that we are definatly and different club, with different people. For a time there, it literaly echoed in this forum and I remember Jutin and I joking about it quite frequently. I know there was a moment when the future of the club was questioned. I want to especially thank you who have served and organized meetings and that have literaly "mended fences" as the swap meet showed. I want to thank you for allowing people like myself the time to be able to grow in the hobby to actually be able to become a resource and help others do the same, so the club may continue to thrive.
Being that it is the end of the terms of office, I thought I would mention my appreciation before the election to you all and believe some recognition for this is overdue.
My hope is that we continue our campaign of improvment, both here of RC and in face to face functions so that we can not only regain what we once had, but surpass it. With the current line of communications we have, I believe that is very possible.
Right now we have a good core group of individuals that are passionate about the club and I am very optimistic about the upcomming year. My ultimate goal is to start by creating a tone here first that is welcoming and enjoyable in which new members and with luck, older ones, return to participate, which hopefully would create bigger attendance and the meetings resulting in a domino effect. This is the whole point of the "positive" push and the "greater good" and "bigger picture" I have been speaking of. With hopes, we will accomplish these goals together.
Thank you EVERYONE for all of your hard work,
Doug Spivey
