Steve WOW!!! Awesome!!!!!!! I see you have GSP in th elower left front growing on the wall, it would look sweet if the whole wall was covered, will you let it do that?

RJ beautiful as ever! I love GSP!!!

I don't have any rock anemones, but Mary does and I think you were referring to her tank pics.

I was going to go to the LFS today, but all 3 of my kids were vomitting, diarrhea and coughing and basically sick last night, so I don't know if they will be well enough to make a trip to the store. If they are though, I plan to get my crabs and mandarin and some other goodies :)

are pics allowed of just nanos?

something I learned last night might be useful

zoos and gsp can happily live out of the water for more then three hours

NO WAY!!! Pics of all tanks are welcome, I love to get aquascaping ideas and coral ideas, PLEASE feel free to post pics of any size tank!!

This thread is pretty much inspiring me to do more with our new tank.

We currently have a Minibow 7 with some live sand, a fake rock, and a damsel. There is an AQ500 as a fuge with some LR rubble in it as well.

We had a reef system going on with some nice coral and LR but were overrun with hair algae. I chalk it up to too few water changes and being right next to a window.

Now we just got a 22 gal cube that is VERY similar to the JBJ units for when we move into our new house. Due to our past algae problems we were just going to do the LS and fake rock deal again ... but I think if I remove the "layers" from the back of the tank and just run a Remora to help with bioload and religiously do water changes every week we can have a tank that will hopefully be as nice as yours.

I cant wait to see more pics

ok then - here is my moving my tank to a temp stand 7 feet away - as the old stand, after modification is going to new house and sit under one of James of Envision Acrilyics custom aquariums - GSP's on the overflow (right facing tank, were out of the water for more then 3 hours - and this AM were happy as clams

thanks Amanda :)
believe it or not i took out a huge rock that was cover in GSP & seem to be taking over the whole corner & a little piece was left on the back, i dint think it was going to grow fast but it is growing real fast, im goin to let it go up & cover the back but try to keep it off the rocks, in the past they have killed some of my nice SPS so im going to keep them in check.
here is an old picture, i had a maidens hair problem (dont ever put it in ur tank) & it spread like a weed the bad thing was that it grew thick & detritus settle inside & PO4 shot up like crazy, but u can see how much the GSP had taking over down there:)

Quick question regarding your skimmer setup.

I was originally going to use the Fission skimmer in my tank (small section on the right in the pic) but think the Remora will be much better.

If I place the Remora in the larger section on the left should I add a second baffle and give it its own section and have the return from the skimmer fall into the newly created 3rd section housing the tank return pump -- or can I just leave it as 1 large section with the skimmer pulling and returning to the same area as the return pump is located?

Thanks

Don't do the fake rock, it will get overrun with algae all the time and you will have to take it out and clean it. Just get 2 nice pieces of LR and lean them together in the center or one angled to the other to give a little hiding space for the fish. This LR will help filter your tank and after your initial diatom algae, it will be live and grow coraline algae which is not the nucsence algae. The Fake rocks are not very good for your tank especially if not cleaned every couple day's.

Thats what I find odd ... when we had LR we had more algae (hair) and cyano than we knew what to do with -- again contributing to small size (7 gallons) and probably too few water changes ... but in the same tank when we took out the LR from the main tank (still leaving some in the fuge) and only putting a fake rock in, the algea never came back (except for the glass/back wall) which the snails take care of.

Intense, you will have a beautiful tank with a remora on the back. I have my tank in in-direct sunlight and I have to wipe th eglass down everyother day, but if I had it elsewhere, I know that wouldn't be the case!

Can't wait to watch you start it up! Feel free to ask lots of questions!

Amanda

Steve, HOLY MOLY!!! Is that an orange lobo in the front? Can I have it?

Awesome pics everyone!!! Keep them coming, now I want something orange other than zoos in my tank!!!

Intense, I love that tank!!!!! I would put the skimmer anywhere it will fit in the back! You have so much potential with that platform doing a fuge! Get a clip on light like I have!

The Remora will help you out a lot there intenseimage. Your other setup must have had some excess nutrients that just feed the algae sometimes. I am not using a skimmer on my Aquapod Nano, so I may have to use some chemicals like AntiRed and such to help control any cyano problems, but I have to keep my setup completely closed because of the Eel.

Marc, known as Melev here at RC has this one.

I've never seen an orange psychedelic mandarin...it's awesome looking. Wonder if u could get a green and orange to breed.

breeding 2 different mandarins is unlikely, but I"m sure you could get a male and female co exist in the same tank, if the tank is big enough(75 gallon or more).

I love sun corals, but they must be fed everyday by spot feeding, and I'm not ready to commit to that right now. I feel guilty when I only feed flakes in the tank and nothing to the corals.

I won't do a leather, not worth the risk, however, they are beautiful!

OK so last night we filled the tank up to do a leak test before we move and find out its too late

Filled the tank up, plugged the pump in and all was good - no leaks.

However I do have a quick question ... when using a surface skimmer (like in the pics) how far up the slits should the water level be?

SurfaceSkim.jpg

When filled to the brim, the water is almost at the top of the slits (doesnt that defeat the surface skimming since there is more water able to flow through under the surface? ... and then just flows into the small rear camber and right over the wall -- no real seperation between sections.

However, if I drop the water level in the tank to near the bottom of the slits (now seeing the water line from outside the tank) more of the surface water is pulled through and then there is a nice spill over from the smaller section to the larger.

Would it be best to build a skimmer box with slits up closer to the top of the tank so I get more surface spill over that will then flow into the lower opening of the slitted wall already in place? With the water volume in the back of the tank with evap it will still skim correctly and not drop below the slit level since it will just drop the rear section level until I top off - correct?

Thanks again
