too bad he's not all flared out...

I just picked up a flasher wrasse last week, I haven't been able to even get his tail in a picture yet! Great shot!

Benny, I finally got more than his tail!! It's not the best picture, but you get the idea

Do you have any of yours showing it's colors?

after posting this picture in the dedicated fairy wrasse thread in the fish forum, the "god" of all fairy/flasher wrasses posted the following:

A very nice picture, but it is not Carpenter's, but Yellowfin Flasher (= Paracheilinus flavianalis).

Three very similar species are shown here; carpenteri/ flavianalis/ mccoskeri (from top to bottom).

Filaments; 2-4 in carpenteri/ 1-4 in flavianalis/ 1 in mccoskeri

Anal fin; red & yellow in carpenteri and mccoskeri/ entirely yellow in flavianalis

Some black areas in carpenteri (in dorsal and caudal fins).

konadog - yours looks like a mccoskers flasher to me...

Sweet!

Standby for an upcoming fairy wrasse article by Dr. Tanaka in the next issue of Reefkeeping Magazine. :D
