One of the LFS's has a gold teardrop, 6". I am thinking of getting it but want some opinions regarding the hardiness of such a clam. What should I look for aside from the obvious, bleaching, and gaping? I know this clam is wild colllected. Any thoughts, opinions??? One last question...How large will this clam get?

If you have at least 250 MH. I 'd say go for it. I have a 5 in. and its very hardy be sure to put it on a flat piece of rock to attach. And be sure to check it very closely for snails. Not sure how big it will get. Maybe some one else will chime in.

I have Maximas in my 90 gallon with just 175 watt and normal output flrourescents, think the 150 HQI are fine. I have four clams that are all over 4 inches

Right now I have some aquacultured clams...None that are wild collected. Should I be concerned with bringing parasites or clam disease into my tank? Are the wild collected teardrops as hardy as aqua cultured maximas? I ask because in Calfo and Fenners bookj it says to try and get maxima clams that are under 4". Are the bigger ones much less hardy?

Co,

Is this your first clam? If so, I would go with a maxima or deresa as a first clam. Though many would recommend something else, I see you have 4x150 HQI's.. that why I said a maxima.

But it's totally up to you, teardrops are the most amazing clams.

Wild collected clams are illegal, however they are some that are raised in teh wild such as the Pohmpei clams, they are still aquacultured just in open waters and not in a closed system which is more controlled, all clams are protected world wide.

I know these clams came from the ocean...I'm sure they were collected legally. What do I do to find out? Wouldn't all distrbutors have to abide by wil collected regulations?

As far as i am concerned like i said all wild clams are protected world wide, you can contact MACNA and see waht they have to say and also talk to the people at ORA.

Are you thinking about getting the teardrop from US Aquariums? They had several big ones last time I was there. The big guys looked healthy to me. If so, I just bought a 2" one about 2-3 weeks ago and it's doing fine.

Here are some pics of the new 7" teardrop. You guys think he looks healthy? Paid $119 for him at a LFS here in Colorado Springs.
