Should I remove this algae? Cause I think it looks cool

Question is in the title. I believe it to be some form of turf algae, though I'm unsure. Do I need to remove it? Is it dangerous in any way? Its been in the tank since the beginning and it hasnt spread yet.

Oh and the tank is two months old, the algae came with the live rock, so I didnt think much of it and I also didn't want to kill all the purple algae by baking it

I'd pull it out before it spreads. What do you mean by bake it? Like in the oven?

The "purple" algae is the good algae

Manually pull out as much of the other stuff as you can

That's hair algae, not a good thing. Probably the piece has a lot of phosphate in it and that's feeding it. Is it just that one piece? If so, pull it, scrub it with toothbrush, dip it 30 seconds in hydrogen peroxide, then rinse the daylights out of it and put it back in. OTOH, if there's more phosphate in that rock, it will bloom again.

If its on a snail keep it because its straight up "punk rock" style.. :headbanger:

But it is regular hair algae that is normally considered a nuisance..

I don't think its hair algae considering its much more corse and bushy than any I've seen, and it hasnt spread at all since placing the rock in the tank. Is it really worth removing since I'd have to remove the rock and that would completely disrupt the tank since the rock is partial buried

reach in, grab it and pull out if you want to remove it..
You should be able to get most of it that way..

You can finish off whats left with a toothbrush to scrub/abrade it away

We have a snail with hair algae...his name is Cousin It. We have a small hermit that will catch a ride on his back and snack away. It is awesome!

If it's not spreading and is a turf algae, keep it. If it starts to spread or starts to look "œfaded" get rid it of it. There are a lot of desirable algae IMO. Just because it's algae doesn't mean it's not cool. Plus, if you have a refugium, it might find a nice home there.
