I'm wondering if we should drive or fly and if we fly if we need to rent a car? It looked like a hike from the airport to the MACNA hotel. Any advice appreciated.
Thanks,
Marshall
I would drive. You are only 5 hours away on the turnpike. If you plan on visiting other parts of the city at all you would need a car. MACNA is being held about 12 miles from the center of the city. There is a lot to do in and around the city and you would really need a car to access everything from Monroeville. You could use public transportation, but you would first need to take a bus into the Downtown area and go from there.
So there is no easy way to get from the airport to the hotel? We are traveling with an infant which makes a 5 hour car ride harder than a 1 hour plane ride.
It is a straight shot, all highway. By the time you get to the airport early board, travel, wait for your bags, get a rental car you could probably be here in a car. The trip from the airport to monroeville could be 40 minutes with no traffic or 1.5 hours with traffic.
I fly once per month and I have long since come to the conclusion that if I can drive there in 5 hours or less, I drive rather than fly.
For other inquiring minds, there is a pay shuttle service from the airport to the hotel, but if you can split the car with someone else, it is probably cheaper to rent a car for the weekend. Parking at the hotel is free, by the way.
I'm right in University City across from downtown center city near UPENN. I think I'm going to head out with another reefer and we may bring our wives and the munchkin. Not sure yet. I bought two tickets hopefully I can use both of them!
