Should I risk adding an anenome?

I have a 4 month old nano reef tank stocked with the following:

Stocking:
  • 1x Clownfish
  • 1x YWG
  • 1x Pistol Shrimp
  • 1x GSP
  • 3x small zoa colonies
  • 1x torch
  • 1x candycane
  • 1x acan
  • 2x small colonies of unidentified polyps (the name escapes me, not aptasia or anything bad)

Setup (not bothering with specifics too much):
  • Kessil lighting w/ spectral controller, 10hr light cycle
  • Protein skimmer
  • ATO
  • Supplemental flow with a couple of small powerheads

Parameters:
  • 0ppm ammonia
  • 0ppm nitrite
  • 0ppm nitrate
  • 0ppm phosphates
  • 8.2-8.4 PH
  • ??? calcium (no test kit)
  • ??? mag (no test kit)
  • ??? alk (no test kit)

Here's the problem - our clownfish has the tendency to just stay on the side of the tank all day and never roam around. He's quite healthy, just has a pretty terrible personality. I wonder whether getting an anemone to host in would coax him out of his little area, but I also have heard horror stories of anenome causing havoc, roaming around, getting stuck in powerheads, fouling tanks, etc. Also it seems that many people tend to stock anenome first-thing when setting up due to these reasons.

Would getting an anenome be worth the risk? What are the chances of the clown just ignoring it anyways?

You leave out the most important information, your tank dimensions and species of your clownfish.

12.5G will not give you many options of anemones to have and you already have many creatures in there.... Back to topic,,, anemone will not help on getting clown swimming around. Single clowns usually stay in their comfort zone around 5-10 gallons of water column. Clowns have a hosting anemone also will not roam far from their anemone either...Getting clowns to reside within anemone is another long story... So in my opinion, an anemone might not help your issue and it could create troubles in your tank. If you really really want to try an anemone, go with a medium sized bubble tip.

No. Too small of a tank for host anemone. And you are not experience enough. The second reason is because you have to asked.

Clownfish don't roam around tank with or without an anemone. It's just its nature. A bta can outgrow a 12 gallon easy and hurt ur corals.
