Should I?

Should I get this guy? Yellow Candy Hogfish (Bodianus bimaculatus) I really like the looks of it and the only thing I'm worried about is aggression from my Cherub Angel.

My current list:

Cherub Angel
Pair Mocha Ocellaris
Royal Gramma
Midas Blenny
McCosker's wrasse

My matted file fish was busted eating my Blasto's so he's gone to live in a different tank somewhere else where he can eat all of the aiptasia to his hearts content.

Not sure on the aggressiveness of other fish, LA says it's a "very peaceful fish". Maybe could work if you used an acclimation box?

Beautiful fish for sure - the yellow is so bright! I was half tempted to get it as well.

In the past I had a pair of them from the Maldives. I don't remember them to be overly aggressive. But like all wrasses they are jumpers.

I had one for quite a while and loved it. Very active and fun to watch. I sold him when I tore down my first tank.

I have a peppermint-striped hog in my tank now. Same fish, different paint-job. Love him too. You won't be disappointed!

And he will hold his own. Some have told me that they eat small shrimp. Mine didn't.

Thanks Brett for your reply. As long as he can hold his own with my Cherub I'm happy. The Cherub mostly acts like a terrorist and comes hauling butt out after fish, mostly my McCosker's wrasse. My McCosker's wrasse just kind of blows it off and takes it all in stride. So it' snot terrible aggression but it's still there. I just wish that he would take a Chill pill! :lmao:

ThRoewer, one of them is enough and it's a fish I won't replace with another one. Beautiful fish, just don't like the aggression.

Yes I will let you know. Everything I've read about them says they're peaceful. Doesn't even give them semi-aggressive. Max size is 4" this one is 2 3/4"

I had mine in my 28g nano with a rainford goby for 9+ months. Was a model citizen there.

Moved them both to the big tank about 3 months ago when I tore down the nano. He's integrated well...hangs out/hunts with the wrasses, attempts to clean the rabbitfish (which lets him), doesn't both or get bothered by the anthias.

I have a peaceful tank at the moment...(got 3 tangs in QT)

Of the tangs, only the purple (have orange shoulder and chevron as well in QT) might cause issues, but that hogfish is fast...maybe faster than "Farley" (the fat Hoevan's wrasse), so I'm not worried for him.

I had one for a while...very active and passive fish. Left my shrimp alone. VERY GOOD JUMPERS! That's how I lost mine....jumped right through the egg crate. The first time I saved it, 2nd time I wasn't so lucky. Make sure your tank is fully covered!

When they get to about 4" their attitude changes drastically from peaceful to very aggressive, especially toward wrasses and new additions.
