This is not a very good picture. He has been with me for over four years now.

4 yrs, that's a relatively long life in captivity right? I was under the impression that the deep water angels haven't been long lived relatively speaking to say some other angels and tangs people have had for 10+yrs. something lacking in diet or lack of pressure in home aquaria?

When I purchased him from Michael at AquaTouch, he was around 2". From the beginning, he would eat just about any food that was offered to him (except pellets). His diet consists of PE Mysis, Rod's Food, and Spirulina flakes (which he loves). I do keep my tank at a constant temperature of 74(+/- 1) degrees with the help of a chiller. By far, he is my favorite fish.

Sorry to hear you aren't keeping them! They look great.

They are going to a reefer who really cares about his fish as well. I was just happy I could re-home them to someone that doesnt just think of fish as disposable purchases.

Youre rehoming them?! You were so stoked to get them. Bummer dude, atleast they'll have a good new home...

They are with out a doubt my favourite fish that I have ever owned. My tank is coming down, so I have to rehome all my fish. They will be my first addition once my new tank is running.

Here's my 5.5" bandit. It took him about 10 days to figure out how to eat from the water column. Now he's chowing down pellets like there's no tomorrow. Gets along swell with my other angels in my tank (a regal, and a trio of bellus angels).

I read somewhere that bandits are like puppy dogs. Totally true. I once saw my bandit chasing its own tail!

So much personality in these fish. The only downside is that my bandit is so active in my tank, it has scared away most of my anthias. They don't really come out anymore. :(

Great looking tank. How long have you had the angels? Do they nip at your corals at all?

Thanks! I've had the bellus angels for about a year now, the regal for about 6 months, and the bandit was the newest addition at 2 months.

The bellus angels left all of my corals alone.

My regal ate all of my zoas (left the palys alone), killed a small clam, and nipped at my sps corals enough where I lost all of my polyp extension, but did not have any deaths as a result.

My bandit ate whatever zoas were left and will nip at my sps as well (again, not enough to cause any permanent damage).

The fish that nips at my corals the most though, is my tinkeri butterfly hybrid.

Interestingly enough, polyp extension just started coming back a couple of weeks ago. Guess the corals just got used to the nipping!

Wow, sorry that I asked. Judging by the picture, I thought they were model citizens. I've heard that goldflake angels are reef safe. I just got one but still haven't decided if he will go to fish only or reef.

I didn't mind losing the zoas. Didn't care much for them, and now I have more room for more SPS!

Also, like I mentioned earlier, my SPS have regained their polyp extension.

Interestingly enough, my LPS (war coral, chalices) suffered no damage.

I believe butterflies did more damage to my reef than the angels. All in all, it's totally worth it to sacrifice a few corals here and there to truly get the fish that excite me. :)

Never owned a goldflake, but if I desired one, I would throw one in my reef in a heartbeat!
