this photo is without the VHO's

keep in mind too that are different back on both tanks (blue background and Black background)

try the 2x400 radiums on the lumenark minis and 2x 110w VHO's URI super actinics
you will LUV the colors in your corals...( on your 75gls) you can fit them.

I have seriously been considering switching to Radium bulbs on my 90 gallon. I currently run 2 x 250 watt Reeflux 10k bulbs on two Gallaxy ballasts with 2 x T5 (UV Super Actinics) for supplementation. My biggest concern with the switch is the life span of the radium bulbs. Can anyone give me an idea of the frequency these bulbs would need to be replaced on the Gallaxy ballast? Also, what T5 bulbs would you suggest running with the radiums?

On my 24gal SPS dominated nano I'm running a DE 150w G-man 12.5k and 2 18w coralife blue pc bulbs. I would keep this combo if i could find 18w pure actinic pc's but i can't because they are straight pins. I'm using a finnex fixture with a finnex 150w HQI ballast. i want just a touch of blue but still want to keep my crazy amount of growth. What should I use? Wouldn't a radium be too blue and not have as good of growth?

The DE 150w radium is not very blue at all really. I get great growth as well.

remember light is not the only thing that make your corals grow, and really is your choice and what your eyes like cause you are the only one spending time with your tank is better look at it in person than see a photo, the growth that i get from the radiums is pretty good, and im in no hurry, i rather have beautiful coloration. and is just my preference...;)

so a radium would be perfect? i may just stick with what I've got, it's not excessively yellow, nice crisp white, just wanted a touck of blue. Might try the 14.5k g-man.

I couldnt agree more.

What blues to you might not be blue to someone else.. Like what Robie signature says "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder".

Cameras also have a hard time adjusting to our lighting, Robie does your pictures justify what you are seeing in person?

myzislow, how long have you had the radium in?

I've had the same bulb since early June. Still looks good and the corals have great color with awesome growth. I will probably replace it around the 9-10 month mark just for peace of mind, even though I could probably make it a full year.

Not really i think i should start taking photos without the actinics, just the VHO's but again depend on the camera settings, if you put a few tanks that are run by radiums yo will see difference in most all the photos.;)

250W Radiums on the Galaxy are good for a full year. Probably longer, actually, but a year to be safe...

I recently saw the 250W Radiums/Galaxies with 1 Blue+ and 1 Super Actinic, and it was nice. The Radiums on the Galaxies are not overly blue, and the T5s really add a lot... When the tank's owner turned the T5's off my mouth dropped. Much less color and POP...

Whiter, Ed... The Galaxy drives it near 420 watts as I remember, which is well over what it is suppose to be run at (spec is 360W), but below the American "HQI" (Sun Agro HPS) ballast which runs them at 470W, which is very white. I think the Galaxy is a nice balance; rumor has it that SLS designed the Galaxy specifically for the Radiums, but I have also heard that the Galaxy was a German ballast that SLS just imported, so who knows...?

The Radiums do look good on them however, that's for sure. But I have to admit that as my eye becomes more "blue habituated", I really like the HQI or Galaxy driven Radiums best when supplemented with VHO or blue T5's

Thanks Todd - do you think I can stretch the bulb to a 8 months life span as I'm not 'over driving' the bulb too much??

That's what I've heard for the 400W Radium on Galaxy, Ed, probably around 8 months...?

Thanks Todd
