this is the second bta that i can get my hands on, that will keep the bubbles long term.
first one was the sunburst, after 2 years, still keep the bubbles. sadly I lost it right before moving it to the 300... and sadder the price of the sunburst also skyrocketed...as college student cant afford another one at the current price...
those 2, i bought from a friend, the mother been in his tank for a while and under radion 14k setting, it keeps the bubbles very well, I currently keep it under prime with radion 14k setting. so far so good, still very bubbly.

i have 2 others standard RBTAs in the tank, with standard RBTA long tentacle looks.

show me what you got. please dont show me a pic of a newly imported bta, because they will be very bubbly for a while, that might or might not last. :)

Here's mine, had him for about 3 years. It was stringy for a while but bubbles are back.

Yes! it the same one. It's changes through out the day depending on the lighting color and intensity. Also, the two photos are taken @ different dates.

Those photos perfectly illustrate why we'll probably never know why BTAs bubble or get stringy.

They're right next to each other yet one is bubbled and the others are not. It's not current, not lighting, not water parameters. :headwally:

They all have their own mind and personality. So they can bubble if they want to :)
My other nems used to bubble quite often, but ever since they grow bigger they seem to be less bubble. But still have bubble once a long...while.

my personal exp, i found only lucky few will keep the bubbles long term across multiply tanks. like the sunburst i had, from 3 to 8+" keep the bubbles well.
so like the standard RBTA, they seem to be bubbles when i cut them, right after they split, right after moving them to a new tank. they seem like to bubbles when encounter stress. we dont know how to make them bubbles, so i looking for ones that have a tendency to be bubbly. :)

mine keep splitting and keep the bubbles i have high light not to much flow and feed them 1 small prawn once a week

These are nice. I've had a few in my tank and at times they inflate and then they deflate. I'll try to post some pictures later.

This is one of mine. It’s huge and well over 24” across. I’ve had it well over 10 year now and it’s been in the same place since darn near day 1. Right under a powerhead where the flow is the highest in the tank and just under the lights where the intensity is nearly the highest in the tank. The only time it shows it’s bubbles if if I shut the flow off for any length of time.

Same BTA, different time of day so slightly different lighting spectrum.

i have couple rbta looks the same, just long tentacles, if only we can find a way to make the standard rbta to bubbles...the big one only about 10" would love to see it grow to 24" :)

In my experience, flow has a direct impact on bubble tips vs no bubble tips. More flow results in no bubbles. Less flow to very little flow results in bubbles being present. The higher the flow, the more stringy they become. This is very evident in my tank where the flow changes throughout the day and calms down as night sets in. During the day when the lights are at the highest, the flow is at it’s highest. As my lights ramp down so does the flow from my Tunze’s. When my flow is high during peak hours, the BTA’s tentacles get stringy and when the flow ramps down, they get thicker. If I shut the Tunze off nearest the BTA for a couple days, it will exhibit bubble tips. I’ve observed this with the big one in my main display as well as the two in my display refugium which also has Tunze’s with similar flow programming.

+1 my RBTA in QT was bubbled. Once in the DT it almost immediately lost bubbles and became stringy. This is actually 4 RBTAs (splits over 5yrs).

They do have their own personality. Here is one of mine, which goes through this cycle many times.
