My friend got a braceless/rimless 36 by 36 by 20 at the same time and I want to say that his ran 460 base and then an extra 50 to bump up to braceless/rimless

Did your friend get that tank from Glass Cages too?

Yup he sure did, I will see if he can throw some pictures up of his tank as well. I have to admit it looks very good may even like it better then mine(i didnt have the courage to go rimless the bracing gives me that little bit extra security).

yeah, Id love to see some pics of that tank. Was that $510 + shipping or including shipping?

The glass alone would cost me close to $400 so a couple hundred extra is not that bad of a deal at all IMO.

We picked it up at one of their shows they charged us $50 for the two tanks to take it their and load it up for us. Well worth it to not have to have it shipped

Here are a couple newer pics of my 60 cube.

Thank you ReefWaters and tstone for your replies earlier in the thread about my 24x24x24 cube tank with an island overflow. It came in the other day and i'd have to agree with you that there just isn't enough room with the island overflow. The overflow was predrilled with 4 holes, 2 drain and 2 return. The box was 7.5" square. This only left an open area of 7.75" around the tank and the top of the tank had a 3" lip. Thankfully I have a good relationship with the manufacturer and he is going to close off the holes and build an overflow on the backside of the tank to give me more overall room. I should be getting it back in next Thursday. Than I need to decide exactly how I want to set it up.

here's my 36x36x20 that jocoxvt was talking about:

i am a bit worried though, another friend just called them up to order a 30x30x13 trimless and they said they wouldn't do it, that without the brace it would probably bust. so why could they do mine that way, but not his smaller and much shorter tank?

You told them it was for an aquarium correct? Their main business is just making cages for animals and not for water.

if it makes you feel better, i have a braceless 36x30x24. it's been setup for over a year now. haven't noticed anything alarming. i check the joints every so often and even tho there are small bubbles none of them connect to each other or go from one side to the other.

Mandrerx ,

If you go to diy section at garf.org and punch in the dims for your tank...it shows the following info

"Material = Glass
Tank Height = 20"
Tank Width = 36"
Tank Length = 36 "
Glass Thickness = 3/8"
Approximate Gallons = 112"

You tank looks like the glass is 1/2 in at least. Why don't you fill it up and see how bad the bowing is ...if it's bad... euro brace it and your good to go.

arcab4 sweet. exactly what i wanted to see/hear.

not worried one bit about bowing, since it is 1/2 glass. just worried about a silicone seam popping. though i have decided to put on my own hardwood trim around the top. partially to make me feel better, but also to integrate it with some sort of hinge on my hood. can't go hoodless at the moment since i'm going to have a bunch of wrasses who think they can fly.

manderx, I wouldn't worry. Especially with only a 13" height. But I would water test it outside or in your garage for at least 2 weeks.

arcab4, I'm glad to hear you spanned a 36" rimless front panel and are doing fine. I would like to try 48"L x 36"W x 18-22"H rimless and braceless. Do you think I would be okay? How thick is your glass and would you suggest going thicker for the extra foot?

Nice cube tanks guys.

Question though, Im looking into getting a cube tank myself. Looking for a cube tank with dimentions of 24x24x24. I cant seem to find anywhere that sells them online or at stores. Wondering if anyone knows where a good place to pick one up is?

Either glass or acrylic (doesnt matter)
Not toooo expensive.
Doesnt have to be a reef ready or a drilled tank. (not using sump).

Any ideas??

Great tanks everyone! Truly inspirational.

I've always wanted to set up a cube that is viewable from all sides. I'm thinking an island overflow with the returns running parallel. The rockwork would be built up around the overflow forming an island. Assuming that I don't want a height of more than 21-24", what do you think the minimum width shoul be for the tank to support decent aquascaping? 36"?

That depends on what type of corals you are keeping I would think. If your keeping SPS, you will want room for them to grow out and up from the rock work. Also, do you want an almost vertical rock wall or a sloping one? If you want a sloping (more flat) rock face, you will need more room.

You really want to think of it in terms of how much room you will have on each side of the overflow. For example, if you have a 6"x6" overflow, you will have 15" on each side of the overflow with a 36" tank. Thats 15 + 6 + 15 = 36. I personally wouldnt want less than 24 inches on each side of the overflow. That makes it over 4 1/2 feet on each side though and that is getting really big.

I hope that helps. Good Luck!
