Has anyone tried out Oceansmotions Squirt? I got one for x-mas and i'll be hooking it up this upcoming weekend. But I'm not sure how i should set it up. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. thanks!

Sylock -

Do you have a front shot of the tank? i just set up a tank the exact size as yours. Do you have a canopy on top of the tank?

Thanks!

Salty FishScales,

I have the OM 4 way unit. Check here for pics. I love this thing.

Disturbed Reefer,
Money being no object, I would go with two 36 inch fixtures. But in all honesty, I think you'd be okay with whatever you could afford. Two 24 inch fixtures will cover more than one 36 inch. Maybe you could buy one 36 inch and then a second one later?

That's actually what I was thinking about doing (36 now and then another later) but my concern is overkill...that would give me 1000W of DE lighting over a 36X36X24 cube, that may be way too much. I need to strike a delecate balance between lighting good enough for the SPS but not so crazy to harm the Lionfish I have. They have a SE 250W over their 55 hex now and are doing great, but I have been told that they don't do well in extream lighting...not sure, maybe just the two 24" units, that will give me 500W of DE lighting plus the 4 T5 actinics.

maxxII,
any particular reason why you went with the larger 4way, instead of the Squirt? I have a 60 gallon, and currently using a Mag 12 for a return to a seaswirl. I'm not sure if i want to switch out the seaswirl and use the squirt, or keep the seaswirl, and add a closed loop with the Squirt... what do you think?

i have an OM 4-way. they didn't have the squirt out when i got mine. also i can but MORE flow through it..the squirt is more limited

Lunchbucket

LunchBucket pretty much hit it on the head. I bought mine before the Squirt was available, and I can put more flow through it. If you already have the SeaSwirl, I would continue to use it in addition to the OM closed loop. More random flow is always better, IMO.

DR, I would most likely go with the 24's. I dont think you'd have too much light, (I've got almost 700 watts over my 58 gallon, dual 250 HQI's and 190 watts VHO), but I can certainly see how you'd be just fine with the dual 24's over your set up, especially if you're gonna be using the T-5's.

I got my 4 way HD just recently. I did the larger version for the same reason that LB and MaxII mention.
If/when I get a bigger tank then i can pump more water through it.
I also agree with Max that you should go ahead with a OM closed loop along with the Seaswirl

Thanks guys!
arcab4, the first pic is actually from the front of the tank, the second is from the right side. I have a canopy on it right now. It's not the finished product yet, just something to box in the lights so the 'stray' light doesn't hurt my 9 month olds eyes when he comes over to look at the tank.

Paint, my tank is bigger than yours right :), that's why there's more room *wink*. You have to post, or send me, some recent pics!

These pics are from the day it was set up Nov 12th. Since then I have had incredible growth thanks to my calcium reactor. I was literally getting 1-3 milimeters growth a day from one of my acros, or at least one of it's branches. My wife and I watched in amazement as it gobbled up the space between it's tip and another of it's branches. It was simply amazing.

thanks for all your input, now i'm thinking about exchanging it for the 4-way... because larger tank is always in my near future!
MaxxII what return and rate are you running on yours?

Hey all, beautiful tanks. I will be hooking up a 16"cube to my existing system (400 gallon total volume) for my wife in the kitchen. About a year ago, she did ver well with a 7 gallon bow-front with no skimmer and barely enough lighting. I plan to have the tank plumbed to the system in my basement in about a month.

Almost like "cheating" for her now. I will be doing all the work with the big system maintaining levels, and she can simply scrape glass & do feedings. It will be great for her since there will be little maintainence (daily water changes were required for her previous tank). The more she enjoy's it, the more I get to spend!

About lighting - What pendant MH fixture & bulb would you reccomend for this tank? We enjoy the (3) 400W 20K radiums with 50/50 & actinic VHO's on my main tank. I assumed I could get away with a 175W fixture for such a small tank.

Salty FishScales.....I'm not 100% sure what your asking, but its being run with an Iwaki 55RLT and it has a version 1 drum, (one port at a time) and each port feeds a Loc-Line Y so I have 8 outlets total.
HTH,
Nick

I decided to keep the Squirt, and do a closed loop. It'll be my first time making one, and wanted to get ideas on what external pump i should use. Any help would be great!
