I LOVE the lions. Its nice to see someone do something a little different than plain old anthias and tangs. :D

A couple of questions. How do they like the flow of that SPS tank? Also, do they pick off any small animals in the tank like snails, crabs, worms, etc.? How long have they been in the tank? Are there any other fish in the tank?

I would love to keep groupers in my next setup but am very wary.

john37,

Your off to a fine start. Just take your time cycling. As long as you dont add any animals I would say you could take as long as you like setting up the sump.

Good luck.

I have had one of the lions for about 1 1/2 yrs now, the other one for over a year. They actually seem to like the flow...and I have some major flow there (I have a sequence barracuda). The red one likes to do the whole swim against the current, then float back and go against the current again...like all day long:lol:
I did have a Tennenti Tang in there with them, he was doing great until he got sucked up against the closed loop return. I will replace him with a Powder Blue Tang, the Tangs are for algae control and for my wife. As for the other tank mates, only hermit crabs, snails, two long spine urchins and one lone cleaner shrimp, one of the lions ate one other one. I'm sure the last shrimp is living on a prayer. I have been contemplating changing to dwarf lions since some day the SPS will get fairly large and the Volitans will be out of room.

I know that this isn't an awesome cube like those that have been posted but I wanted to share my little corner in the cube community.

Cheeks69 what kind of lighting do you have? MH? Are the colors of the pics accurate to real life? If so what kind and tempature bulbs are you using I love the look of your set up. And feed your fish by hand is awesome I just started doing this with my clown. thanks-pecc

I have one 250 w MH XM 10k and 130 w of PC actinics.

The colors are accurate except for the corals and Anemone on the substrate unfortunately they always come out overexposed even with AWB. The Carpet Anemone has a much deeper green color to it along with the Zoa's and Finger leather.

50g Update - 3 more months

50g Update - 3 more months

Here are a few updated pics of my tank. Everything is doing great.
My green bubble tip split after just 6 months and everything in the tank is growing like mad. Ill try to get some more pics posted soon as these pics are 2 months old and some corals have had to be re-arranged.

These pics are a little blurry b/c the tank is VERY scratched.

Snookums thank you very much for the comment. That means a lot.

causeofhim I got the tank, stand, and canopy from a fellow reefer who was getting out of the hobby for a while. He got the tank online from someone who was using it to propagate. I think that guy scratched it all up. I couldn't pass up the deal so I'm living with the scratches. I'm about sick of them though and I need some more room for my corals..... :D

By the way, I think my galaxia spawned tonight. I hit it with a turkey baster during some routine chores and it let off a few thousand tiny neon green balls that I believe were eggs.

Pretty cool I thought! :p
