I have a single 820 in a 20 high with and ssb and have no problems. I think 2 820's for a tank that size would be great!

Ive always been a fan of cubes. I used to have an oceanic 60g cube, but decided I wanted a frameless/black silicone one with 7 holes for closed loop bulkheads. Now I am working on a 120g cube (30").

I like cubes because there is no better aquarium that can take advantage of all the light that a single halide pendant has to offer. The 60cube, for instance, is running off of a single 400watt HQI 14,000K hamilton. The SPS in there grow very fast.

But my real reason for posting is that I am working on a larger 'square-bottom' tank....

96x96x36...1500g. The ultimate...almost cube. (most people that like cubes also like square bottom squat tanks for the same depth and multiple viewing algle reasons). I will post pics of this beast when the tank arrives. Currently, all that exists is the room and sump room next to it (plumbing is run through the concrete floor in a 'channel' that we cut out). The tank will be viewable from all 4 sides, and have a center 24x24x36" overflow. Primary lighting will be from a 6x6' skylight cluster we just finished putting in, and 4x1000watt 20,000Ks for the dimmer months and more blue. How does 6 Tunze 6200 streams sound for flow?

96x96x36 holy moly. Put the waders on to aquascape that bad boy.

Who's building the tank? I'm assuming it will be built on-site?

Herbert T. Kornfeld....

WOW! :eek2: That sounds like a dream. Thats a monster overflow too. Do you really need it that big?

If you start a seperate thread on that tank, please post a link here. I would love to follow that.

Good luck

I will have 6 Tunzes on my 600gal... (2x6200s & 4x6100s) I will see how that setup works and change out some of the 6100s for 6200s if needed...

I agree, I don't see why it would need to be 2'x2' I would have gone with 12" - 16" if I could have, unless there is a reason for 24"x24"...

Well, it always comes down to one's own opinion as to what is best for his own set up.

That said. :D My opinion would be to have the overflow on one side or even better, in one corner of that monstrous cube. That way, you could view straight through the tank on two sides or all sided, depending on where you put the overflow. My reasoning is that it would give you more of a natural reef look without the "column" (rocks and/or overflow) in the middle of the tank. Your corals could grow up in a non restricted natural looking area.

Again, just my opinion. :p

Herbert, has this tank been ordered and/or built yet?

Good Luck!

No, the tank has not been built yet. We are cinsidering building it ourselves...but are open to suggestions. Currently the owner is very busy at work, but we are ordering the stand (welded steel with a powder-coated black exterior).

post a link to the thread you start for this tank, i will tag along the whole way!!!!

Cubes are with out a doubt the best tanks for reefs, flat out.

starting up a 20x20x8 talk about squat!

FYI - be sure to check the foundation that it is going on - due to the extra weight of a large tank, the stand may have to be built extra wide to distribute the load - a LFS near me had a similar issue and had to re-build the steel stand for a display tank after finding out the concrete slab under the tank was not thick enough to hold the exact footprint of the tank.

just came across this thread. here's my 60 gallon. 24x24x24, 96wat pc, cpr bakpak, about 1500gph. it's FOWLR and the pic was before any fish were added. there's a large cave in the middle of the rock formation for my snowflake to hangout. he's also got 3" pvc running around back there to feel nice and safe.

Let's bring this back to the top.

Can we get a list going of manufacturers that build cube tanks? I'm looking for a 24" cube for Christmas and would like to find one locally, in glass.

Update

Update

I had the dreaded Red Bugs come back. :mad2:

I have finally learned my lesson on treating new/unknown frags.

Anyway, I have one more interceptor treatment left and Ill start getting my parameters back in order. I haven't lost anything but a cleaner shrimp and all the corals are fine. They are just not extending their polyps very much and their color is faded.

Oh well. Its coming along.
