my 3x3x1 shallow reef cube... everything was just transfered 2 nights ago from my 24x24... still a little of the new fine sand blowing everywhere
few aquascaping changes were made... the tunzes were tanken out.. 2 vortechs installed.. lighting is a 400w 20k halide... octo extream 200 skimmer
sump is actually larger than the display... 3x3x16"

Hey here's some updated pics I snapped today of my 135...things are coming along nicely! I moved the chiller to the side of the cabinet to allow more airflow and added a dual chamber BRS reactor for carbon and GFO. The I-Tech 200 skimmer is still plugging away...I've been very happy with it. I also added some automation with a RKL and 3 PC4's along with the PH and Salinity probes. Apparently there have been a lot of problems with the Salinity probes...but I guess I was one of the lucky ones! I also picked up a Chrysurus Angel...does he pick/nip...of course (not as bad as some). But I have enough in there to where he has plenty to choose from and doesn't pick on any one item in particular. I did have to get rid of my open brain that he was a little to fond of. Let me know what you think...sorry the color isn't the greatest...I need to invest in a real camera and stop buying coral...lol.

Ok guys, I just decided to get a 30x30x20 cube for my office and got a question regarding the trim.
Should I make it rimless or add a black trim? Its gonna be an open top (no canopy) reef tank.
It would only be around $100 more to make it rimless.
I currently have a rimless tank and home and love it.
Here are the pros of rimless, looks alot more sexy specially with a nice hanging fixture.
The cons are: its a little bit more expensive and I would need to add some net or thing above it because of the jumpers. (had 2 gonne the last week)
What should I do?
If I get the tank with the black trim it would be alot easier to add a glass lid or a mosquito net lid and make it look good.

I agree rimless looks nice.
I was also looking for a rimless, but ended up with a euro braced tank (got it used so really have no choice). I can say the advantage o euro braced is I can fill the water right to almost the top without fear of water spilling over. I have seen pictures of rimless but with water several inches off the top so water does not spill out when the power heads are on full blast. I think that defeats the purpose of the rimless look. of course euro brace has its disadvantages, first of which none of the hang on tank gadgets work.
if your priority is looks, then go for rimless. assuming use of net or lid would be temporary.

Here is my rimless cube. I have mine around 3.5 inches below which serves both form and function.I personally like the aesthetic of the water line below the top of the tank. Functionally i can drop my lights really low below the tank dimension reducing light spillage, moreover i can utilize my MP40s to the fullest with a 3 inch wave in short pulse mode.
