show me your CUBE!!!

ATM i have a 30X30X16 and in some ways i wish i would have gone with the 36X30.... but im really happy either way. I use 24" T5s and its nice bc the cube is so shallow that the even if my bulbs were not over driven i think i could grow SPS on the sand.... matter of facti know i could! my superman monti is bright blue and its been in the tank for baout 5 weeks. It started out completely bleached!!! and now blue as hell! So now i keep all my low light stuff on the outer edges of the tank so all my Acans, and palys are happy there :). But the 36" would have been nice for extra length.

Decissions decission lol..

im slowly working on a 48x48x24 rimless cube!!! :D im super excited about it. whats everyone doing for water flow? closed loop, or powerheads? im torn between the two. also considering center overflow. so many options. please post any thoughts or opinions to help
thanks

Are you building the tank yourself? I'm building my own 30x30x24 very soon. I'll be using a vortech mp40w for flow.

Impur: that 24" tall will work out nice with that mp40!! i can barely crank mine up to 70% bc it will start blowing the sand all over the place!! i usually keep it at around 50 -60% and it does a good job of flow in the tank... there are few spots with low flow but thats where the rics will go so no problem for me... the back wall i blast it with the return nozzel but i think i rather have that nozzel moving the water surface.... so i will have to find a solution for the back... if only i could put in an MP10 on the 1/2" acrylic :(...

Keep us posted with pics of your build :)

impur, id love to build it myself. ive thought about it just have no experience in doing so. might try out some small projects first then see where it goes from there. i am looking into reaching out to a few ppl in my area who have done so and picking their brains. :)

Rich - I sure hope so! I got a smokin deal on the mp40. I'm going to have a coast to coast external overflow and bring the return up thru that. I just got done tiling the area that the tank will go, so next project is building the tank! I'm pretty excited.

biecacka - yah i don't have any experience either. But there is only 1 way to get experience!! I've been doing a ton of research on it and i think i'm capable. We shall see.

my biggest question right now :) on a rimless cube is water flow. how are ppl getting water flow towards the overflow box? without putting powerheads on the front of the tank? CL or will the water just make it to the overflow box eventually???

Water will circulate all the way around the tank.... in my cube i have 1 vortech on the right panel.... the water flows everywhere some areas less than others but on the surface its all movement. The undertow bring particles close to the overflow teeth and before they get back into the stream of water they are sucked into the overflow.

HTH

I'm just looking at every forum build i can and everything i can read on google as well as lots of input here and the rimless thread.

If you are pumping water from your sump to your display, then the water has to go somewhere. Regardless if you are using a powerhead on the back wall, side wall, front wall, the display is going to fill up and either go down a drain or overflow.

right i know that much but just seems a little counter productive to be pushing water away from the overflow box.
you building glass or acrylic. where you gettting the material from?

On a cube where would you rather have teh overflow, on a corner or right on the center of the back wall?

im going in the center of the back wall, that way i can have 3 sides viewable. but for awhile i thought about in the center of the tank so it could be a walk around

Coast to coast on the back wall :smokin:

Center it or coast to coast.
