A purchased cabinet redone

A purchased cabinet redone

I bought this kitchen island, but it was no way ready for fish. I took it apart in sections and welded a heavy aluminum frame, than rebuilt the cabinet to the frame. There is no problem with weight anymore. I took out the drawers and used the faces to make a lifting face and the two doors. I used Durorock for the inner floor. It has really worked well.:celeb2:

Hi all looking for some info tips how too I have a 60 cube 24 in square and I want make my stand 36 in just need information on how to support center where tank will sit stand will also be 30 in deep

May not be to the level that some of these are, but I think it turned out well... 9" shelf all the way round the tank, which stands out away from the wall. Had my daughter do the mosaic tile work... she did a fine job, IMHO.

Do you have any foam or padding under the aquarium?

I love the mosaic that your daughter did. It definitely adds a great touch and I imagine it will draw your daughter even deeper into the hobby and science behind it.

Thanks. I think she did a fine job. As to drawing her in... College student, turns 21 next month. At this point in her life, getting her attention for more than 30 seconds is nearly impossible. She wants to paint fishy scenes in the door panels... I'm tempted to let her.

No foam, tank is setting on flat, smooth sanded 3/4" plywood, with 2x 3.5" holes for the plumbing. Oceanic says no padding... it's their tank, so that's what I did. Tiled surround has 3/8" wood strip between the tank and the tile, to keep the grout clear of the tank itself. Tank could still be removed... unlikely, but possible.

There's more details on how my stand was built on the build thread below... 3/4" sides, dado joined, glued, and clamped to 3" solid corners, all flat on the floor, and flat to the 3/4" top. A single laminated beam, made up of 3 layers of 3/4" ply, reinforces the center of the top, resting on supports that go to the floor. It is SOLID.
