Show me your large peninsulas!!!

I can't seem to find a thread dedicated entirely to large peninsulas and their aquascaping...so I thought I'd start one. I just purchased a 375 (8'x30"x30") peninsula and want some pics of aquascaping to give me an idea. Having to keep rockwork far enough away from 3 sides is going to be fun. And pump placement is going to be a chore. Can ALL pumps be located on the one 'non viewing' panel and produce optimum flow?

So let me see aquascaping and pump placement on LARGE peninsulas! (And room placement too lol)

Thanks!

Here is mine, it is against the wall so it isn't a true peninsula. I wanted more open space for angels, tangs, so my rock is all in the center with at least 5" all around. In most spots it is closer to 10" between the acrylic and the rock. My tank is 96"x30"x24"

Yes that is a stingray, unfortunately he is not doing so great. My LFS told me they could tolerate reef temps 78. After I bought it, many more experienced here on RC said it lives in colder waters. For the 1st 4 or 5 months he was very active. My temp went up to 80 for a day or 2 and he hasn't been very active or eating very well for the past month... He is still hanging in there. I'm trying to find a new home to better suit his needs but people don't want a ray that isn't eating a whole lot.

I also really like the peninsula style. After setting my tank up with that rock layout I will not ever build a tank that is not peninsula style. My 7" Naso tang absolutely loves it. He darts through the caves from one side of the peninsula to the other, and he swims over the top of it as well. It is hard to see the caves from the pics but there are several that go from one side of the peninsula to the other.

Here is my Peninsula tank, 72x34x30. First pic is from when I redid my rockwork a few months ago. It's about time I take a few more shots. Second should give you an idea on room placement. In my case the tank is a wall between my living room and the bedroom in my loft. There are more picks on the build thread. On the pump placement, I have 8 returns drilled through the bottom of the tank with a Sequence Baracuda CL pump. I have an external calfo on the wall side of the tank with 2 returns from a Snapper, and then 4 tunze 6105's located in each corner of the tank. In the future I will be purchasing 2 tunze 6205's to mount on the right side of the tank and place 2 6105's in deco rocks. What do you intend on keeping in the tank? A word of advice, don't put to much rock in the tank. I ended up taking some out and I still think there is to much in there.

Will upgrade to my dream peninsula tank in who knows when, but definitely following this thread. I hope ppl link their build if available. :bounce1:

I'm looking forward to a peninsula tank some day. I love the look.

What does everyone think the minimum size for a good looking peninsula tank is?

I think you need to do at least a 30in wide tank, any skinnier and you have issues with not having enough space for Aquascapeing. In 24in tanks or smaller most people stack rock against the back wall to make the best use of their space, but this would be very unsightly in a Penn. tank. My tank is 34in wide which is the largest tank I could get through the door. My original plan was for a 96x48, but I couldn't get it through the door. The advantage to a Peninsula is the access from 3 sides, which means you can do a wider tank and still maintain easy access to every portion of the tank.

Bedroom peninsula? niceeee.....

Here are a few of my 480G. Its 4'x8'x2' deep with an overflow dead center in the tank. The aquascape runs down the center of it. I built the aquascape with live rock and pond foam. The current aquascape has been in the tank for more than 7 years and has held up perfect. You would never know pond foam was used and any joints are covered in either coraline algae or macro algae. I have a build thread here as well with much more information including pictures of the aquascape being built and changes as well as additions I have made in recent years. I will put the link below the pictures. Also, there are several episodes of the tank on youtube under LA Fish Guys episode 80. Many of which are linked in the thread.

This is pretty old and taken 6-7 years ago when I first built the current scape.

It is 63x39x35", two separate Closed loop systems plus two Tunze Streams hidden in the back wall. Lighting is 8x54W T5 and 2x250W MH. The decoration is 90% ceramic, the rest is a few pieces of life rock and some dead rock.
here is a small video
