They were only like that for two or three days. I then got my main tank rearranged and all the LPS went back into the display.

The tank I took those pictures in has turned into mainly a display for the clones of that RBTA. (some cepitularia "blue xenia" in there too). I have cut that anemone several times and I am up to one really big half, and 6 smaller "clones." My goal is to have about 10 anemones in there that I can cut every other month for sale to the LFSs in the area.

dsoz

thanks

How does one cut an anemone---I've heard that is really tricky and you can lose both in the process

very nice tank Michelle--I love the size of the frogspawn/hammer coral.
that substrate is sqeaky clean and white. Are you using sugar fine argonite or is it the solar flare lights.

BTW
did you purchase the solar flare lights in the GTO?

Actually, the frogspawn that you see in the top left corner, and towards the right of the tank, used ot be ONE HUGE PIECE ! When I was packing it up during the move, the base of it snapped in half, so now I have two big pieces.

I was so mad at myself for that ! It was my prize coral !

The sand is only sqeaky clean because it's new! :) It's a sugar fine sand. I need to add a sandsifter star or two to keep it that way, they are on order.

The solar flare was a birthday gift, custon built by my friend Scott who works with Aquatinics.

thanks for your answers

IMO I would hold off on the sandsifter star until that sand bed establishes itself with bethnic organisms----they will just eat them up and no time --not allowing for them to populate.

How did you control the sand storm when you added the sugar fine--anytime I have done that I have put the sugar fine between layers of medium argonite----but I sure like the look of that bed.

I used a small icecream container to wash the sand until the water ran clear, then I slowly lowered the container into the tank, let it fill with water slowly so that it didn't end up everywhere when the water hit it.

Then to the bottom of the tank and slowly dump the bucket out. Easy as pie, and no big mess, you couldn't even tell that I had added sand, the water stayed clear.

Mind you, it took two nights of doing it this way to cover the entire bottom with the depth that I wanted.

Thanks. That frogspawn was one of my first corals and has really grown, now if I could only get my favias and chalices to grow that fast.

What's your secrets--after all those years of experince you must a few tips for everyone

Thanks Capn'

I keep it simple. Weekly water changes, ESV Kalk in the topoff, moderate flow with gentle surges, and feed the tank. LPS like food!

Lighting is all VHO, skimmer is CSS125, no CA reactor or fancy nutrient reduction strategies that I wouldn't maintain consistenly.

Stability is the key.

I agree with stability. Since I put two of my three k4's on timers I have a loll for about two minutes and then they start up again. My organ pipe coral and torch are really liking that break.

Do you mind me asking your feeding routine?
