Hey, long time no see to all in this section who remember about me.:wavehand: (gozermantis, koshmar, lionbacker54, micstarz, tangalong, are you still there?) I'm finally back to stomatopods world with a new mantis tank project. I want all of you, mantis owner, to show me your tank, in order to give me some new idea for my in process new set up!

So, let's see your mantis tank!:spin1: Thanks!

Welcome back to the world of stomatopods

Here is a picture of one of my setups. 24"x18"x18" 34g with 10 gallon sump/refugium. The sand bed is 3.5." It is for a g. ternatensis and will be mainly hammer/frogspawn/torch for the coral. The tank looks bare because I just finished building it recently and am slowly moving the contents of my old 8g Biocube over. It is strange looking at it without coralline on the rock :hmm3:.

Sump for the 34 gallon.

Last pic is a 24 gallon aquapod for a g. chiragra. Got an outbreak of dinoflagellates going on right now.

My tank is pretty bare too but here it is. 16 gallon bow-front for my P. ciliata. You can see her there on the bottom right. Please excuse how dirty it looks, I just did a water change before I took this and sand flew everywhere...

Thanks to both of you for sharing, I was about to think that I've posted in the wrong forum!:lmao:

Nice looking tanks. Since my new set up will be a cube, your tank give me some idea Peter T. And usatennisfan, I like the minimalist aquascaping of your.

Go, go, go, I want to see some more!

I'll play too, even if I've started this tread. Just to share...

Thankies! I take pride in my mantis tank. I really like my nano reef but there is nothing like a mantis. They have such great little personalities! All my friends and coworkers laugh at me when I say this :fun2: but what do they know!
My previous mantis tank was a 2 inch N. wennerae and it was PACKED with LR and I never really saw her much because of the amount of LR. I think I found a good amount with this tank but the brain took up more room than I intended. Oh well! I know that P. ciliata like a large footprint and I think this is a good one. This is my first spearer and I need a name... WISH ME LUCK!

Welcome back!!!!
Yes, I'm still here but I don't have any tanks right now :( I had to sell due to time and money but I still jump in and out here to soak up info and give my terrible advice ;) I'll be back too once I finish my degree next year and start makin da big bucks. I'm looking to attempt to breed N. wennerae once I start everything back up and also finally get an O. scyllarus in addition to acquiring another cuttlefish. But alas for now I must cheer from the sidelines and throw help out when I can. I could post a mantis tank pic later this or next week but it would be a praying mantis tank! Yep that's right! If I can't have a mantis shrimp right now I'm going to have the next best thing (much cheaper, less upkeep, less room) I'm actually on the MantidForum now and awaiting my 2nd instar Malaysian orchid mantis next week :D

Glad to have an old face back! I haven't seen Thurge around in awhile, Gozer still pops in and out thank god, but I haven't talked with Macstarz in awhile since he deleted is own mantis shrimp site. Tangalong has been gone for awhile also :( But your back so it's a step in the right direction! I'll be tagging along with this thread too.

Your tank looked nice Cath :). How did you like your peacock? I originally started saltwater tanks up again in order to keep a peacock. It seems I got sucked in the reef keeping hobby quite a bit since then :lmao:

By the way ritter, that is a very nice n. wennerae tank.

Woua! Glad to see you Lionbacker54 and Koshmar!:wavehand: Hihi, I think that once we've got stomatopods, we stay addict for the rest of our life!:lmao:(haha, the proof is that koshmar dream about it every night!lol) I'm sad to know that micstarz and tangalong aren't still here.:sad1: Lionbacker54, did you still have your mantis?

Ritter6788: Really nice looking tank!!! Thanks for sharing.

Peter T: I haven't my peacock anymore, he died from shell rot in humm...2009 I think...And when it happened, I owned a 125gal reef tank at the same time and worked at full time in a reef store so I miss time to take care of more than one set up adequatly. But now, I'm back in laboratory (my real job) and only work 1-2 evening at my friend's reef store, for the pleasure. And I downgrade my 125gal reef to a 60gal reef so I've more time to spend for a mantis. And hihi, probably that the beautiful female peacock who have spend some weeks at the store have something to do with my comeback!lol

So, here I am! As soon as my new project take form, I'll give you some updates.:spin1:

cath-

yup, still have that crazy mantis shrimp, although she's been holed up all week, presumably for a molt. always makes me nervous. i say "crazy" because she is always redecorating. corals, chaeto, rock, snail shells, whatever. she's always at it. i'd post pictures, but i don't know how. if you like, you can check out the pics at

Wow lionbacker54, it is the same that you have when I have mine? Realy beautifull babe!:inlove:

To post pics from photobucket, it's really simple, you just have to copy the IMG code under the pic you want to share and just past it here,;-) That's what I used and since I'm a real mess with all technologies (except what is related to salt water), if I can do that, you can too!:hmm3: (humm...I'm 31 and I finally own my first cell phone for few month!:hmm3:)

Really glad to know that you're still here!:)

Awesome looking Tanks!

What kind of lighting does everyone have on their Peacocks? I am new to the mantis game and am wondering what kind of lighting to use on my peacock in my 10g (she's still a baby)....would like to grow some macro perhaps.

Thanks!
