Show me your mantis tank!

My Peacock!

While she is only in a 10g, once she grows, she might be getting a 20g long tank set up with some mangroves...

This tank was originally set up as a Gulf Coast invert tank with a few pistol shrimp i collected along with about 15 warty sea anemones (mean little guys!) and i got tired of that and always wanted a mantis. I ordered a mantis from the LFS not knowing what i was going to get all I could find out was that it was about 3 inches long. $30 later and this is what I got!

Say hello to Dr.Gonzo

The benefit of working AT the store is you can buy it and just leave it there until the tank is ready. I did that with a couple of things when I worked at my LFS before I had to quit for lack of relaxation time. Just couldn't manage working 60 hours every week and stay sane, you know? But I digress... I say go for it. Can't wait to see it!

Upgraded my 10g to a 20g...Dr. Gonzo likes it much better now.

Bought it on craigslist for $60. It came with a deep sand bed, 4 pounds of live rock, and an aqueon filter plus a small domino damsel.

I added my 15pounds of live rock and bought some mangroves from a guy in Hawaii on ebay. I made a ghetto refugium for my caulerpa because it was getting shredded by my hermit crabs (damn Galveston hermits! :mad2:) by using an octo condo. Dr. G really likes the open space as she has been coming out of her burrow much more to scavenge for more rocks...

I got my first coral, a small xenia colony. My plan is to make this a mangrove/ softie reef with a caulerpa garden on the side. I think it will be something a little different.

Anyhow, here's the pics!

Humm...I usually left the livestock I want to the customers for about a week or until I can buy it. If not, it's unfair since we (the staff) can always go with the rarities and better livestock. That's a rule we have made between us to left the chance to all our customers.

And haha, I know what you mean, I am working at the store at partial time, just for fun, after my 40 hours a week real job. But since the owner of the shop is a great friend of mine and so is for all the staff and a lot of customers, it's a fun and relaxing time for me to be there.:lolspin:

Johnny Tang: I love the idea of the mangrove!:o)
