Show me your Pillar's

I drilled a 1/2" hole in the acrylic sheet for the rod to fit tightly into. I then used some left over silicone i had around to "glue" it into the sheet. I had marked out all of the rocks and drilled them to the way I wanted them and then as I placed the rock back onto the rod I put some silicone on the rod to "lock" the rock into position.

my tank isnt going to be BB so I will bury the sheets with alittle sand...this way the rocks will be very secure and no one is the wiser. except you all...shh, dont tell.

this turned out to be really easy - I lined up the rocks and then drilled through the top one until I hit the next. Then I would take off the top rock and keep going. I used a hacked coat hanger.

I didn't need the base, the bottom rock was a big enough base.

Hi,

Is it possible to see the pictures that have been replaced by the small box with an "x" in it? They seem to be with older postings.

Thanks, Fred

Fred

sometimes they are removed as the person no longer are around, or they removed them from their photpbucket folder, if they used photobucket that is. You can always pm the person to see if they are still around and obtain a pic.

When drilling and assembling the rock, how long can the pieces be out of the water with no harm done?

Keep them wet and you should be ok.

NICE GUYS..I hope to make some soon and will add some pics. What kind of drill bits do you use? I am ordering some marco rocks to start and will mix up some live rock.

that looks nice too! how big would you say your rocks are (i.e. 6" x 6", etc). i have a 70g i have to set up and i need to know what size rocks would be best. (tank is 36" long x 18" deep).

Yeah around 6x6.just be careful not to drill to close to the edge, they will crumble. Use the smallest pillar you can get away with,I used 1/2 cpvc,so I had to use a 5/8 drill bit.pretty big.next time I may order some smaller acrylic rods.I was in a hurry this time and didnt want to wait so I just headed to home depot and picked up whatever i could find.:)

I was on US Plastics and was wondering what the difference between extruded acrylic rod and acrylic round rod is other than a couple dollars per foot. Are both reef safe?
