Here are some under construction:

Its stucco, yes, but I think it is concrete based because it dries quite hard. I think its just concrete and sand mixed in, but I dont know the ingredients for sure.

Here are some before and after of my pillar's...around 23-24 inches tall
all stacked- no supports!

I have to say, after almost six months or so now, making all my live rock into pillars was the best thing I ever did. I get such good water flow in and around the rocks, that there is no shedding. Live rock in my old tank shed detritus for a good year and a half, since in was in one big pile. Before I do a water change I would use a small powerhead to blow detritus off the rocks in those really hard to get to areas. Guess what, last couple times, nothing came out. Nothing.

And I've all but forgotten the days of placing a coral, accidentally shifting the rocks, and having to re-aquascape half the tank. And an unexpected bonus...the acrylic rod is somewhat flexible, so I can actually move the pillars slightly if need be.

Where do you guys get your acrylic rods?

It's a pretty standard item for any plastics company that sells acrylic.

yeah ive tried all the local glass shops, lowes, wal-mart, hobby shops... nothing lol. I cant find them anywhere local it seems.

I think im about to make my own using just a normal sheet of lexan.. and cut it into thin strips of squares instead of round.
