show me your skimmers!!!!!!

JBNY, you should see mojoreefs skimmer in person. He started this new trend and it really works. I have seen some great needlewheel and beckett skimmers and this thing kills them. sooo many bubbles and a ton of contact time. Mikes is 12" tubing with a overall height of about 6'6".

thats the original reef devil , back when the recomended rio2500's on them.. BLECH! Great skimmer,, Use a mag 7 on it. Will work great !

i am running an air driven skimmer also, had two of the sweetwater diffusers and hated the large bubble size, so i went and made a KW awesome air diffuser, mine is 2" cube with 1/4" thick basswood walls, this things blows away any diffuser i have seen as far as bubble size and super lower pressuer req. to produce bubbles, you should look into building a basswood one for your skimmer, you will be amazed at just how large your bubbles are now

zapata,
Very interesting, where do you get this KW diffusers? I like trying new things. rufio173 right about the sweet spot. My first stone configuration was making a bigger bubble, but changing to bigger stones, bigger tubing, and openning up my skimmer box made all the difference in the world.

mikeo1210,
I need to do that.

Sorry didn't know I double posted.

NuclearReefs- I did run it w/ a mag 7. It was first appear to me that its more like the current professional line since the reef devil can't remove the collection cup and all the RD line have a round base. Well, now I know.

Yopu know, I contacted geo several months ago about a 12" diameter skimmer and he said he wasn't making them.

baja_hammer2003,
That thing looks great. Please post pics when you get it running. Interesting that the NW infeeds point down in the middle. I'd like to know if you get a lot of bubbles coming out.

Red eye reef, the kw diffusers have to be made, basically you take a chunk of basswood and crosscut it so you end up with 6 slabs about 5/16 thick, cross cut meaning across the grain of the chunk of wood not with. then just cut them to whatever size you need, superglue them together to make a cube and drill in the hole for a 1/8"MPT to barb fitting and you are done. you have to soak the pieces of basswod once they have been cut for like half a day, then pat dry and glue them up. took me a few time of running the diffuser to see where i needed more glue. also do a search for KW Awesome air diffuser and you should find a link to the site that tells you how to build them.

I am using a 2" cube with a eco plus 4 air pump in my G2 recirc skimmer, this thing can really skim, wet or dry.

Typhon - so what do you think of it?? how much bubbles do you feel are in the chamber? w/ 2x9000's it should be INSAIN IMO. the pics don't do it justice??? getting the skimmate you want?

thanks for the pics buddy :D

It must be my camera, but the bubble density seems to be very good. It is pulling out almost everything in the tank.

Currently the tank is about 4 weeks old and I have only have 2 fish in a 225g tank and that is the skimmate after only 2 days. IMO, the skimmer is impressive. It seems to be pulling sand, small bits of food (nori), etc.. out of the water column.
