Ill take a pic of it in action soon.

My Shorty 2. When I first got this thing it was just awesome. Since I've been running this skimmer, I haven't had any algae problems in over 2 years. I don't know if this has cleaned my tank so good, but now a days, if I get a cup of skimmate in a wek that's alot, Can't figure out why it's not pulling out stuff the way it used to. But I guess I can't complain, I have no algae problems.

Gools, when you first bought the skimmer was your reef also new or mature? I would expect a new reef (new LR, more things dying and out of balance) to have more skimmate prooduction, esp while cycling LR, than after a few months and things start to take care of themselves...

Oh, and iohn, this is a 'show and tell' of skimmers...not a 'how do I set mine up' thread. You should try another thread or make a new one that is topical.

Here is my Deltec 851 .

Herbert when I first setup my skimmer, my tank was over a year old. And established with 3/4 of the live rock I had in there. Just seems like it's slowed down, even put on a new pump, and didn't change performance. Don't get me wrong this skimmer has kicked a$$ since, on, and I would buy another in a heart beat

gools,
I have the same thing with my h&s a110. It doesnt produce the skimmate it used to about 4 months ago when my tank was much newer. I'd have to agree with HTK on this one that its just that there isnt as much to pull out anymore. I'd think that the skimmer wasnt working except that my sps are growing very well and have great colors, I have no nitrates, and I have 0.00 phosphates (tested with a tunze high sensitivity phosphate test kit). So i think its working just great.

Well, I guess even on an established tank it would make sense that it would have higher output for a while...like doing the leftovers from the prior skimmer, assuming it was a step up. Its not always about the amount of skimmate, it could be more the extra types of proteins and organics that the shorty2 is able to get that the previous one wasnt taking out.

Im glad to see another Aqualine skimmer kickin butt. I have been debating a Shorty2 or Baby for my next skimmer...of just making my own clone with a couple OR 3700 pumps.

I have two skimmers on the system that I am employing two different skimming philosophies on.

#1 - A MRC MR3 beckett with an extra 24" of height (total height of 57") that I am using a PanWorld 250PS pump on (Iwaki 100 clone). After head loss (becketts do cause considerable head loss) I am running about 1300 gph thru this skimmer. This means that I clean 99.9% of the water every 4 hours. Skimming semi-wet I get about 2-3 gallons of light brown skimmate (not transparent) a day.

#2 - The newest addition to the family. A Euro-Reef RC-750 that came in a few days ago. This skimmer is replacing an ASM G6. With this skimmer I am running a full 2 minutes of contact time thru it (340 gph) which will hopefully allow it to take out some of the stuff that the MR3++ misses. I plan on running it somewhat dry. It will clean 99.9% of the water every 16 hours.

Jimdogg, why is less than half the reaction chamber on the H & S bubbles? Shouldn't there be alot more bubbles in there?

This probably doesn't belong with all of these big hitters, but I wanted to contribute as part of the obscure and inexpensive group. This a skimmer from Catalina Aquarium, it's their smallest model designed for HOB or in sump. I had it HOB for a year and recently added a sump. The second pic is the collection cup after 12 hours, which is what used to get collected in over a week when used as a HOB.

In the sump, I've removed the J tube apparatus and have the pump hooked directly to the body.
