You know, I used to wonder how much better an expensive German skimmer could really possibly be over a domestic model. Well, here's my answer.

3 days of nog:

Oops,
My skimmate was very wet, oil residue from the skimmer, oil residue from sanding, filing, bugs in sump... I used poly filter and it dried out my foam, Good right? I like my foam a little on the wet side, so I raised my water level a little and left the house. Got back hour later and all my skimmate was overflowing back into the system, 3/4" of fairly med dark skimmate all went back into the system :(, I guess about a cup and a half.

So I was now in a good position to really test this skimmer. So FWIW. I cleaned the cup lowered the water level and got the skimmer going. 10 minutes it recouped 1/4"skimmate, 30 minutes little less than a 1/2", 3 hours just about 3/4" of skimate was in the cup.

This is what my bubbles looked like before the poly filter (not my photo)

2 mintites after poly filter and lowering the water level 2 times

24 hours after poly filter dry foam. right before i over adjusted the skimmer and dumped all tha back into the system

cleaned cup, started skimming. adjusted down to 16scfh, 180 gallon system

pointing at the water level i did raise it in that 3 hours (10 minites into skimming

about 1 hour into skimming, more than "75% recovered"

12 hours later more than 100% recoved, very light bio load. funny thing is the skimmateis darker than before. got to love those poly filters

Poly Filter will make a skimmer go crazy. I ran one for a little while and rinsed it thoroughly before use or else my skimmer would overflow

Good tip, I'll be rincing those form now on. They sure pulls the residual oil out of the water. The overflow from my poor adjustment and the cleaned cup photo, was 48 hours after 1 poly was added. i think the first reaction stuff was over by then.

Here are some better pics of Fligers custom a200-1260

Well here is my contribution to keep this going. Newly extended MR2...one beckett driven with a GenX pcx55. The 6" riser is entirely filled with tiny bubbles:D

Not running it as wet as I used to. This is about an hour after cleaning:
