Show off your blennys

The top blenny is a Golden Sailfin Blenny (Atrosalarias fuscus) and the one on the bottom is a Stigmata Blenny (Cirripectes stigmaticus).

Are all midas blennies gold midas blennies? or are there varieties?

There are two basic Midas Blennies:

African - more orange/golden head to tail
Indo - less colorful

I believe they are related to the canary blennie which is yellowish.

Wow, I never saw a Stimata before. Very nice!

I've had a lawnmower blenny erradicate the algae population in one of my tanks before. Once it was done, it started to eat meaty foods that are fed to the other fish (Cyclops-eeze, Mysis, brine, etc.). I still feed nori to it quite often though, perhaps a new sheet once every 2-3 days.

I believe some blennies are herbivores and some are carnivores. They can be quite territorial to blennies of the same shape, however. For example, the Golden Sailfin and Stigmata blennies in the above picture are very similar. I took quite a gamble putting them in the same tank. Luckily, it is a 150g and they occupy different ends of the tank. I also have a tailspot blenny and they seem to not pay it any mind at all.

Good luck with your blenny, I absolutely love these guys!

Thats a stunning looking blenny gotaku, I've never seen that bottom one think you could get some more pics of it?

Thanks! Yes, he's a tough little bugger to track down. I can try to take more photos but I'm generally not good with a camera. I'll give it a go this week and hopefully have something to show you soon!

My Midas Blenny has not eaten algae like the Tomini Tang but he destroys Nori on a clip and basically anything else put in the tank. He's a bit spoiled.

Once the blenny erradicated the algae, it pick on corals?

Not at all. It grazes and picks algaes off certain corals but never caused any harm.

Is this the same fish..it is listed as
Cirripectes stigmaticus, but looks nothing like the one above?
http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?pCatId=2624

It could be a number of reasons why LiveAquaria's specimen looks different. Based on their description of the fish, they listed "Color Form: Black, Green, Red". Also, a more unlikely reason could be that "The males are generally larger than the females and experience a succession of color changes when breeding," according to their description.

On Fishbase the first picture is quite different than the 4th picture and so on...

My guess is that there are different variations of the "Ember Blenny" or "Stigmata Blenny." Perhaps age/maturity/sex has a role as well. But of course, your guess is as good as mine :)
