Show off your Eels

The one I saw for 400 was about 6 years ago from a wholesaler..Hawaiian about 18" if I remember?

Edit: After thinking about it harder I think it was actually a Brazilian mislabeled as a Hawaiian

Les, how do you know anything about packing fish properly? Ahh man just kidding. By far the best packaged fish EVER have come from Les. For example, who covers shipping prices and then packs a 7 1/2" Black Tang 8 gallons of water. Yes 8 gallons of water. Could barely get the box through the door!!! Hope all is well Les. Congrats on your one year anniversary!!! Hope you realize that in about 4 months I will be In Hawaii. Make sure you have plenty of water changes and anything else fish related for me to do. Tim

Anyone had any luck keeping eels with a Clown trigger? I have a FOWLR 125 gallon. I have a Clown, Picasso, and a Blue jaw trigger all aroung 6-7" and the clown isnt afraid of anything.... I want a zebra moray eel but have heard mixed opinions on the compatibility... The 125 actually doesnt have one fish in it yet.... It is almost done cycling and I will be moving my triggers in shortly... The eel Im looking at is 1.5-2ft. The local store suggested putting him in the tank alone for a couple days and then add the triggers... Anyone out there have a Clown trigger successfully with an eel? Should I pick a more aggressive eel? Thanks!

Depending on coloration and size I've seen dragons from $400-
$1500 usd

Great, ahaha, I only know of one person who had one, apparently in excess of $2000 AUD.

My dragon moray eel

My dragon moray eel

OK guys, here comes my new purchase - a dragon moray eel.

I purchased it yesterday from a guy (a local fish store owner) who has had it for 6 years. He believed that it might be 8-10 years old now. Unfortunately I don't have specifics on from where it was originally imported. It is about 60 cm (2 feet) long.

The eel har functioned well with other fish, and it is currently together with a small collection of other fish in my Fish Only tank, one picasso trigger, one niger trigger, one navarchus, 2 small hepatus surgeons and a cleaner wrasse. The cleaner wrass is all over the eel, including its jaws.

Varg! That is one awesome looking Dragon!!! From the amount of White I would think it is Japanese. Europeans usually have more access to Japanese Dragons rather than Hawaiian because of travel distance. What are you going to keep him with? How much was he if you don't mind sharing? Good luck with him! Tim

Tim, are you saying the amount of white on the face, or the white spots throughout the body? Most of the dragons I've seen labeled 'Japanese' have more red/orange throughout the body, and Hawaiian's have a more brown body with a little orange on the face. I'm trying to learn a lot about dragons, so sorry for all the questions.

Wow, can't believe how many Brazilian Dragons in this thread. I picked one up at a lfs a little over 3 months ago. He's in a 210g. When I got him, I had just upgraded from a 110 and the only thing in the tank were 5 chromis. I figured they'd be goners within a day or two, but I had to have this eel. He was just so spectacular looking. Well, due to some house renovations, I haven't had time or money to add any fish in 3 months but the 5 chromis are still there. He doesn't really seem to care about them.

Here's a pic of him from the 1st day. He was probably about 12-14"<BR>

Here are two pictures taken today, a little over 3 months later. He's probably 20-22" now. He's always out and about and comes all the way out when I approach the tank - of course on the day that I want to take pics, he's shy. So these are the best i could do.

Yes, that's feather caulerpa in those pics. I have it in my main tank as well as my fuge. It drives other aquarists nuts, but I love how it looks and moves with the current. When he comes out to the front of the tank, he tends to move within the path of the caulerpa.

Anyway, LOVE him. I've almost always had an eel in my tank for the past 10-12 years. This guy is definitely my favorite. He's active and so far appears to be pretty gentle. We'll see when I add another fish this week.

Quick video of him on his second day, still digging out a cave (which he has since outgrown).

SkinnyPete that is an awesome eel man. I dig the caulerpa too. I've actually seenyour video several times before too. Good stuff.

The video of the dragon with the cleaner wrasse is very cool.

Thanks, Grouperhead. I actually feel like he's the ugly duckling compared to the other brazilians I've seen on here. Hopefully he's in a transitional phase :-) That yellowish coloring between the dots just started appearing over the past month.
