Show off your favorite pairs or trios!

Just picked up a second Bandit angel, I am hoping to have a beautiful pair. Their introduction is still a while away, but once it happens, I will post the pics here.

What kind of anthias is that in the background? Evansi? Is it really that colorful with the naked eye (not suggesting retouching, just that I have a few fish that for whatever reason look far better in photos).

Yes, evansii male, and he is the same color as he appears in the photo (if the butterfly's body looks white on your monitor :)

Nice!

Any ideas on sexing them? I have one and would love to get it a partner.

Thanks,

Chris

Males have darker/prominent stripes and blue around the gills. They may be able to change sex, Pseudocheilinus tetrataenia can go from male to female so Pseudocheilinops ataenia may be able to (they are vary closely related).

Adding a new P. ataenia to a tank with one already established might not be the best idea. A harem would work better than a pair; sadly I don't think my 2 are going to work out. They are either too old or too few in numbers.

Thanks for the advice. sounds like mine might be a female then. Hope it does work out for you.

I had been considering getting a group of these but was concerned that their colors would fade - apparently not in your case :) Very nice!

I recall that other thread from 2012, how has the Evansii group done for you?

My sixline killed 4 females :(. This devil fish has been in the tank for 10 years, I cannot catch him.

can't give up...had mine for over 6 years and took me a week to catch it...it lived out its life banned to the fuge along with a large hawk which I still have...

That's too bad. Not a fan of the pseudocheilinus genus, they're all bullies. Impressive that you've had a tank running continuously for ten years though. I've been keeping reef tanks for over 25 years and the best I've ever done is a 5 year stretch with the same setup.
