Interesting Design JeremyBlaze, not an expert but the raceway looks to big to harness the action of the water swooching through channels.

hope it works out

Gloves Prop system

Gloves Prop system

Here is my propigation/grow-out system. Its nothing to complicated and not real pretty. I just gathered up a tank and sump, found a GEO skimmer and CA reactor, nailed some wood, glued some pipes together, and filled it up. There are two overflows on each end w/ 1" drains. The return pump is a pan world 100PX. I figure about 80 gals in the main tank, an about 60-70 in the sump.
I have a PFO (3) 250w DE MH w/ (2) 72" VHO lamps I am going to use, but I need to order the glass lens for it and make an acceptable canopy. Currently I am using some older PC light fixtures that hold (2) 96w lamps in each one- so 4 96w PC lamps over a tank thats 72" long x 24" wide x only 11" deep.

Each raceway is 12" wide, it will help in terms of the water flow for sure.

The little nubs are acrylic squares for me to sit eggcrate shelves on if I desire.

Here's my humble contribution... used as a frag and QT tank...

40 gallon breeder
20 gallon sump
ER CS6-1 skimmer
6 x MJ1200 on a wave timer
1 250 w MH
2 x 65w PC actinic

To: Jeremy and Jeffie, The raceway design is an excellent idea, very efficient use of water power. I have considered a similar grow out system but struggle with how to reach greater synergy using the "darKside" of the eggcrate to eek out production of other organism(s). I realize there is no real wasted space if for no other reason WQ.("The solution to pollution is dilution")

Bill,
That's nice set up. I just bought a commercial plexi system preplumbed and with florescent fixtures. There are 7 divideable 48x18x12H tanks for only $800. Only two can be set aside for sps prop because I need more grow out space for the FW side of my hobby. Can't wait to get them up and running. They can be set up on two vertical shelves. But they are a real find for me because I live in a semi-rural area and things like that don't come around everyday. I have been away from reefing since the sps revolution has happened.

riptidereef, The system I described have the standard aquablue plexi backs which makes them a little more attractive than all clear. For the reef portion I have to get the skimmer and UV because I have a MagDrive 9.5 to pump. The FW will need a #12 pump and DIY wet/dry+UV but that's about it. Do frags sell well enough to help defray costs or is this completely a labor of love?

riptidesreef,
Interesting. I am dumping domestic discus and specializing in wild F1 to fill a niche market. I am hoping to offer sps corals regionally to diversify. I have question. I found references to bucket DSB and just posted for directions to the thread. Maybe you could direct me to it?

apistomaster,

Is this the thread you are looking for?

It's a long one, I'm only about halfway through reading it myself, but lots of good info.

20L plumbed into my sump for the display. Lighting is temporarily 2x65w PC. Return pump is a mag 9.5 shared with the display. Ball valves allow me to control flow seperately to display and frag tank.

Tank is pretty empty, it was just set up last week. Just have some GSP in there for now. AND a strawberry pseudochromis that was overly aggressive, removed him from the display.

I'm sure this question has been asked before, but i just looked all through this thread and didn't find it. Those 50 gallon rubbermaid containers, where can i buy one of them at? thanks
