Show off your Ritteri and or Sebae's please :)

wow phender, how do your sebaes survive with such low lighting? i guess you don't need that much light after all

When I first started keeping anemones 3-4 watts per gallon was considered a lot of light. I guess my anemones just don't know any better. Keeping the tanks under 16" high helps a lot.

You mean the Zooxanthellae doesn't know any better.:D

I apologize if this isn't a Sebae, I think it is.

Thanks. He was very healthy when I got him (no bleaching) and only got darker with time. I guess having a 250w over a 20g doesn't hurt either. :D

squiddly, is that a brand new sebae? Looks bleached. I have one that looked like that when I got him. You'll want to feed him daily till he browns up.

Yes, he's brand new. I'm hoping it isn't bleached. Got him from saltwaterfish.com. I've seen them in the wild white like this with the tips colored. I've been feeding him, and hopefully if he IS bleached he'll be better soon.

How big is that Sebae? I just got one exactly like that with the blue tips and the exact white color. Mine is about 4-5 inches in diameter. How much did you pay? I got mine for $30. Its a sweet anemone.

He's about 4 inches across and also was on sale for 30.00. I'm really hoping I can do the right thing for it. The money isn't as important to me as keeping it alive and happy. Hopefully the clowns will like it too :-). So far they are ignoring it. It's a week old in the tank.

Yeah I am not worried about the money either. My small clarkii took to my Sebae right away. It hosts in it periodically during the photoperiod and sleeps in it at night. What kind of clowns do you have because Clarkiis are the only ones that naturally host Sebaes?

I got percs. One pair orange, one pair black and white. We'll see what happens :-). The males are both doing their quivering dance thing. Maybe they'll have a party.

They may not host since they are percs. Many clowns from what I have heard are picky when it comes to Heteractis Malu. Fortuanately for me, my smaller clarkii felt right at home when I put it in my tank. Its a protection thing.

Unfortunately, my little guy does not look very good today. Totally squished up. I'm doing water changes in hopes he recovers. He was eating a few days ago and seemed fine. I'm hoping it's just a hiccup. *sigh*

Wow, those are gorgeous picks Darkstar76!!! Great photography skills! Love that anemone too. I passed on a ritteri today. Very nice specimen, about 10" in diameter and very healthy looking, but it has a very drab army green base with dark tan tentacles. I'm going to wait for a nice colored base with somewhat lighter colored tentacles.

Thanks! Those pics were intentionally underexposed by 2 f-stops in order to get the shutter speed quick enough to avoid blurring in the tenticles... my anemone is really in some heavy and turbulent current. Those pictures are straight from the camera. Here are a couple more that I took the liberty of doctoring in Photoshop.

Since it will be a while before I've got another tank set up for one of either of these, please post your pics so I can get my fix :)
Please post how long you've had the anemone and describe the system its in.
Thanks!

I neglected to share any details... The anemone is huge... when he "balls up," he's about the size of a basketball. It sits on top of a rock pile so that every direction of travel is down. He's climbed the walls before, with disasterous consequences, but on his pile... if I feed him enough... he pretty much stays put. There are two Seio 820 powerheads above and behind it... with their current colliding directly overhead. It eats silversides and shrimp, but for the past two months, its eaten only shrimp... and nothing fancy... the regular peel-and-eat variety from the supermarket. I freeze them in ice cubes with a bit of tank and kalk water, and thaw them at suppertime. The anemone is showered in light from a 400W 15K XM bulb directly overhead. It's foot is about 20" below the light, and his tips genearly sway about 12" below the light. The light sits about 6.5" from the surface of the water. It was shipped from Florida to Missouri, and looked very sad upon arrival. My tank-raised perc (Dabu) was a bit cautious at first, but dove right in after about 2.5 hours of investigation. Dabu used to travel all over the tank - not anymore. She NEVER leaves the anemone.... even when the anemone climbed the wall, and lost 30% of its tenticles in a powerhead... Dabu was still with it... and when I reached in, gently pulled it off the wall, and placed it back on the rock pile... Dabu refused to leave. Its a match made... well... in my tank. :) I've had Dabu since Feb. of '05, and Hairy (the anemone) was introduced on May 24th of this year.... so...they've been together now for about 4+ months.
