*Show Your Aggressive Fish*

how big does it get? one of the larger moray eels? How mean? Like a Tessalata? Experience with him/it?

Thanks in advance

He's one of the smaller species, actually :]. They only get 20", but they're thick for an eel that of that length (even in photos of ones in the wild). This guy is only about 20" long, but as thick as my upper arm (not including his dorsal fin)!

I'll say he's aggressive because his eyesight is awful, and he thinks he's getting fed if anyone stands in front of the tank too long only days after his last feed. He'll strike at fish, at rocks, at the magfloat, at the water siphon, at urchins, at coral, and at me (through the glass mostly, and when I'm doing tank maintenance I have to have my eye on him). It's really important that when he gets in the feeding mood that he is fed as fast as I can thaw some food. He eats 5-7 medium prawns in a sitting, or half a fillet of fish. When he's not in that mood he's quite peaceful and always has half of his body hanging out in view, just laying on the rocks. It's not a shy species, so it's good if you actually want to see your eel instead of it always hiding in the rocks.

I had to stop feeding my other fish meaty foods everyday because the smell of meat in the water makes him go back into feeding mode, and I refuse to feed him more than twice a week as that can be bad for eels. Now the fish only get meaty food twice a week right after the eel eats to his fill. I had to buy some flake food and use my pellets more for the other guys.

yea its pretty awesome the tank is to small though. im going to my LFS right now and picking up one of there used 50 gallon breeders so give both of them more room. i have a question though. how do i go about switching everything form the 29 gallon to the 50 gallon with creating a cycle?

That's one of the coolest fuzzies I've ever seen!

He's a cute little guy alright...... although the yellow ones are gorgeous (and rare).

Once you get the 50 filled up and your circulation set up the way you want it, just move everything over and TRY to keep the rock as wet as you can the entire time. Maybe soak lots of paper towels in the water, cover the rock, and lift it out and run to the 50 and put it in. It will most likely make a mess but it should keep as many of the nitrifying bacteria alive as possible. Unless you can get a bucket into your tank and move the rock into the bucket, and keep the rock submerged at all times. Most people don't have a tank big enough to do that though.

You will most likely see a VERY small cycle though.

I like the reds over yellows (:. The yellow just seems a little out of place to me on those fish.
