Show your Mangrove Systems

For those running LEDs, what have you noticed long term vs other lighting?
Any differences in growth rates, growth patterns, etc?
And which fixtures do you think work better for Mangroves?
I thought about searching in the plant/horticulture/marijuana forums but don't want to end up with a bunch of nuisance algae from a ton or red leds.
I only have a few mangroves planted in about a 10"x10" square area.

are you still seeing burned leaves? I'm wondering if it might be some other stressor.

All the leave start to fall one by one and then the root start to die out so I take it out and trash it. I wander what cause it? For the first 4 month it growth very nicely then that happen all 30 of them.

Yeah I did it wa in my 55gal sum with liverock and sand. I have light turn on 8hr a day for them it was very nice at once time leave, root everything healthy as ever. But then it just one by one by two by ten leave falling down even the green leave start to dry out aby ideas?

Ya that's not a good way to grow mangroves. If you grow them like that they will die every time.

You can't grow that many that close to each other, they'll choke each other out.

I got this week off work and figured it was a good day to get some trimming done. I hate doing, cringing with every cut! Here are a few pictures.

So I over growth them? I saw a lot of people here growing more then 30+ with no problem what you think is best? I have 55g sump how many can I growth in there?

I have a hard time believing they were crowded out. I bet there was something else stressing your trees. Salinity, lighting, humidity level...

Is it really so hard to believe that a tree (let's not forget that's what mangroves are) would not like to be grown inches away from 29 other trees? I'd be interested to see that occurring in nature. When you compound that with the fact that you're depriving the roots of substrate, which also does not occur in nature, you pretty much aren't giving that tree a chance.

If it's in the sump I highly doubt that the salinity is going to be fluctuating beyond the capabilities of a Rhizophora species. Same for the humidity. Lighting could be an issue as well, but that is minor compared to the effect of overcrowding.

Something to keep in mind is that mangroves are not extremely efficient nutrient filters, so packing a bunch of them in a small space isn't going to do much for you. If it's filtration you're looking for you should probably use macro. If you like mangroves and you want them to be happy, you should space them out and give them a little room to work with.

it started as a saltwater tank and mangrove pods to root them and add to my 120. but forgot about them and all I do is dump out rain water when it gets too full. probably about 20 local mangroves and 3 inches of sand and a koralia NANO 240 for circulation. light but good ole south florida sun. its about a year old
