Shrimpy compatibility question

Have you had any experience adding peppermint shrimp to an established system with large skunk cleaners?

I would like to add 4-6 peppermints to my 40 gallon display to take care of an awful and escalating aiptasia problem, but am reluctant to do so because there are 2 good sized skunks in there and I'm worried about violence.

I've also got a mystery wrasse, who could be a problem. He left the skunks alone when I added them, but they were pretty big - I intentionally got the biggest ones I could find to try to minimize the trouble. Most peps I see offered for sale are really small.

In your experience, is this possible without shrimpy warfare (assuming my wrasse doesn't act first.)

I added two smaller peppermint shrimp to my 65g, the two skunk cleaner shrimp killed them within two days.

If your going to add them start with one or two larger ones, and if they all get along add more.

Good Luck!!!

Well except for the wrasse, maybe. I've always had both without a problem.

You should have no problem... I have put in a 55 gallon a pair of each ( skunk cleaner, blood red, 4-5 peps ) and that was housed with a long nose and red Hawk fish....

Now that is crazy! My Flamehawk lives to devour shrimp. I have tried getting shrimp that are large enough for me to eat thinking he would be frightened and leave them alone. No such luck - if a drop a shrimp in my tank he thinks it means that it is time for him to eat!

Key to that is that all the shrimp needs to be introduced FIRST then become established in the tank prior to the hawks being introduced..
